What makes these conferences think they can hang with the SEC year in and year out? The fans must be smoking crack and are in denial.

I left out the ACC and Big East because they don't even deserve to be in the same class as the other conferences.

PAC 10 fans, USC fans in particular, are crazy if they think USC and PAC 10 is as good as Florida or LSU and the SEC. USC fans, you lost to 2 unranked opponents!

USC did beat Arkansas this year, but this is b/c of Coaching. They didn't hardly play Freshmen Mitch Mustain who was an 8-0 starter and Heisman Candidate Darren McFadden.

The SEC and National Champion Florida however dominated Ohio State (Big 10) who beat Texas (Big 12) when Colt was healthy.

LSU beat Arizona by 25 more points than USC did, and played more players in the game. John David Booty played the entire game as compared to LSU playing JaMarcus Russell (One Half), Matt Flynn and even let Ryan Perriloux (3rd string QB) hand the ball off. LSU in that game played 5 RBs all with 4 or more carries, K. Williams, J. Hester, J. Vincent, A. Broussard, and C. Scott. USC against Arizona only played 3.

Another comparison for you USC fans, USC struggled with Cal (23 - 9) while Tennessee buried them (35 - 18). 15 of Cal's points were against the Tennessee Second and Third string defense in the 4th quarter

One more comparison for you USC and Pac 10 fans, Washington State. Auburn beats them down 40 to 14, while USC slipped by a mere 28 - 22.

Here's 3 SEC teams who beat down USC's opponents by a larger margin and while playing 2nd and 3rd string teams while USC played the first team the whole way though.

You starting to see the difference yet?

Oh Yeah, FIGHT ON! You left some games off your list! Funny they’re all SEC Wins!!!! Wow this changes things

9/06/03 LSU 59 - 13 Arizona
9/04/04 LSU 22 - 21 Oregon St
9/10/05 LSU 35 - 31 Arizona St
9/02/06 Auburn 40 - 14 Washington State

Your analysis seems to be pretty shortsighted. I do know that the ACC is good most years, they just happened to have a year when Florida State and Miami were horrible, Virginia Tech was mediocre, and the rest of the conference was nothing worth mentioning. The Big East is probably the most consistent conference from top to bottom. The Big Ten was 2-1 against the SEC in bowls last year (better than "hanging" with the conference) and 1-0 in regular season play. The whole notion of SEC superiority has never really been backed up by results on the field.

Ohio State didn't have a good showing for the Big 10 this year, but they would compete with most SEC teams. There ARE a few automatics in the SEC. Vanderbilt or Mississippi State most likely won't win the conference. I wouldn't say they are really superior to the Pac 10 or the Big 12. Let's look at some of the trends in these conferences and why they compare with the SEC.

The Big 12 has three perennial powerhouse teams (Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.) These three recruit so well that they have a shot to win the national championship every year. All three of these states possess a huge pool of talent. Take the largest, Texas. It draws the best players from the largest pool of high school talent in the nation. This would naturally make them one of the best teams in the country (as evidenced by their national championship last year.) In addition to these three powers, there are a few other teams in the Big 12 who have a good team every few decades (Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Colorado, and Missouri.)

The Pac 10 is similar. There are a few powers who have a legitimate shot at the title every year (USC and UCLA) followed by several teams that have good teams every now and then (Arizona State, Oregon, and Cal.)

There is a consensus that the BCS is flawed, but if we are comparing these four conferences there can be no complaint, as they are the ones who benefit from this flaw. Here is the breakdown of national championships since the BCS has been in place:
SEC- 3 (Tennesse '99, LSU '04, Florida '07)
Big 12- 2 (Oklahoma '01, Texas '06)
Big 10- 1 (Ohio State '03)
ACC- 2 (Florida State '00, Miami '02)
Pac 10- 1 (USC '05)

While the SEC has a slight edge, that's hardly dominating. If anything it seems evenly distributed over the eight seasons. None of the conferences has won in consecutive years. Seems pretty balanced to me.

The Big East only went 5-0 in bowl games. The ACC had a down year. Yes, the SEC is the best conference in college football right now. But don't tell me that the PAC-10 is better than either conference. I'm sure I'll get a thumbs down for that one.

Yet again some one under rates the Big ten. Ohio st went to the national championship and Wisconsin has beat AUB and ARK in the last two bowl games and Michigan was a contender all year. ANd think of this 3 of the Big ten teams could of been in a BCS bowl game but they couldn't because of that stupid rule. Wisconsin could of hanged with any team they were beat by Michigan by only one score. And Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan St., Penn St are no walk in the parks either. THe SEC is alwaysed looked at as the best cobnference around because eveyone can win the conference well Illionis won the conference like 5 years ago and they recieved 3 top recruits this year so to the SEC fans. SHOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the thing! First off, I'd like to start by saying I'm a huge FSU fan. And yeah, I rememeber the glory days. Thing was, we beat UF the majority of the time during their best years, which was the "Spurrior Era" (1990-2001), and we were in the ACC and of course they were in the SEC. We were the only school he(Spurrior) had a losing record against throughout his12 year tenure at helm. I can rememeber hearing a lot of people say, "but yall don't play nobody", and stuff like that, which was suppose to be their excuse for losing because the had such a "Tough Schedule" while the Noles were usually on their way to the National Championship(LOL!). So, all that talk about the SEC "always has been the TOUGHEST conference" has been, and will always be a myth to me.

I think what hurst the Big 10 every year is that they end their season so early and have too much time off between the regular season and bowl games. Michigan was as good or better than USC through the regular season, but USC was still playing football for a few weeks after the Big 10's season ended. The same with Ohio State and Florida. I still think Florida would have won, but it wouldn't have been so one sided. Besides, could Florida have beaten some of the great USC teams of a few years ago? What about Texas in 2005? The SEC had a strong year this year, but I think next year will be USC and Michigan coming out as the best. They are both keeping their best players, while Florida and Ohio State are losing most of their's.

I agree with you all the way. The SEC is a dominating conference. Ohio State made the National Championship then got spanked by Florida. If you look at the teams, the competion in the SEC i sso much better than anywhere in the country. The Pac-10 is dominated by USC, and they really have no other year in, year out quality teams. The Big 10 and Big 12 teams are good, but not consistantly. In inter-conference play, i'd pick the SEC to win the majority of the games everytime.

Didn't USC beat the SEC west champion by 5 TD's last year?
Didn't the SEC lose out in head to head competion with the Big 10 during bowl season?? Look, I'm not going to argue that the SEC is not the strongest conference right now because it is, but, they are hardly the dominating giants some people like to think they are. Their marginal superiority rests in the fact that they typically have a few more competitive teams than other leagues, not dominant, but competitve teams. That's it, that's all, calm down.

So you have a good year recruiting and steal a great coach from the MAC before you make a comeback. Who cares?

You beat Ohio State after they had 2 months off. 2 months of not even knowing who they are going to play. Their best all around player gets knocked out on the first play and until a bad call to go for it on 4th down, were only up 7 pts.

So you think Vandy is gonna beat JoePa? Kentucky gonna beat Purdue? I think Texas can handle Georgia. Oklahoma could take Tennesee.

The truth is, anybody can beat anybody. Play the national championship again, and lets see if you get the same result. You wont.

Just face it, every conference has their great teams and their bad teams. Until they install a playoff system, you wont know really which is best.
