The first day of moving in they claimed i was making to much noise and called the cops. The cops explained there was nothing they could do because it was one o'clock in the afternoon and of course i would be making noise moving stuff up a flight of stairs. Now since then they have called the cops on me about twice a week saying that my son is making to much noise. Now i wont lie i have two year old son that runs around and makes noise and plays with his big tonka trucks. Is it really my fault that he can hear him that well. I mean hes two doesnt really understand that concept between right and wrong not to metion that hes got add. So the guy who lives done stairs hits his walls really hard and yells out bad words all day long and plays his music really loud. What should i do PLEASE HELP

Ok so i have called the cops. On cop did try speaking to them but thats was no good because the cop got so upset because the guy wouldnt even let him get a word in. The cop told me it was no use and they werent going to budge. Now the last time i called the police they refused to come out and the cop on the phone pretty much told me i was a bad mother and that i should learn how to control my child better and i wouldnt have to worry about it. Did i mention that my son has ADD and ADHD? And that just makes it harder for me to explain to him not to make noise. And i have tried speaking to the landlord but he says he does not get into problems between tenents like whats up about that? I just dont know :(

1. Ask the landlord for help. if he/she's any good, they will often mediate a solution between you and the jerks. perhaps the people will even be forced to move?
2. Give them a taste of their own medicine. call the cops on them when they play loud music slap the walls and shout bad words. your kid should not have to hear that.
3. i liked the idea earlier, about putting down a throwrug or something to dampen the noise, however, (sorry to answerer!) that may or may not work. the people may just be looking to bother someone else. however, if it works, kudos to you!
Good luck and hope this helps!

Being from Jersey I can tell you that neighbors are jerks. If the police officer that keeps having to come recognizes you and knows that your neighbors are jerks calling all the time for no reason, then you can start to let him hear your side, and know that the neighbors are just a bunch of nutjobs. And if you have to, place a report on him. Atleast get yourelf heard. Good luck. Love and Respect.
Ok, so now you know that the cops are not going to help you. I would start writing letters (ALWAYS better to write a letter) and send it to as many different places in the town council that you can. If you are in a big city, it will take forever for them to notice, but if you take it to the point where you are practically harrassing them with so many letters, then they will have to respond sooner or later. A letter leaves written proof that there WAS a complaint. Good luck.

You need to put some type of carpeting down - throw rugs, whatever. Next time they call the cops, you file a report too for harassment. Also, speak to the apartment managers and issue a complaint with them. For all you know, these people could have a habit of harassing people who live above them so they don't have to worry about it, and get people to move. I had the same thing happen in Maryland - the woman filed complaints of us having a loud party WHEN WE WERE IN PENNSYLVANIA and nobody was even home! Soon as I counter complained, she moved, and there was no problem after that. Good luck.

Talk to your landlord about it. He/she may have a solution, or at least be able to be a neutral party in negotiations.

If your neighbor is disturbing the peace, then you should call the police on him, just as he does on you. At some point, the police will get tired of coming out and have a talk with him.
