hello, i am having a problem with my pc. it's a dell dimension 3100 bought just November last year and after 2 months, the sound always loses its driver so I always have to reinstall the driver everytime I turn my PC on. Is there anyway so I could stop the gobbledy-goop of installing the sound driver.

DETAILS:
OS: Windows XP MCE 2005
Sound Driver: Onboard SIGMATEL STAC-92XX Audio Driver
It is a Dell Dimension 3100.

Have you installed any sound related software, like just before the problem started, particularly any that run on startup. Select Start, Run, type in msconfig, OK, Startup. You can check if your sound driver is there and with a tick (mine has one for SoundBlaster Audigy) and untick any other suspect program.

You might also be able to select a restore point dated before the problem started (later installed SW and other changes will no longer be available).

Check Dells site for an updated driver relase Sometimes there are bugs in drivers and I've seen this sort of thing happen before that as fixed with a new driver release.
