I can't say whether Graphic Design has a better career prospective than Multimedia. Because even though Multimedia has some Graphic Design in it and Vice versa you must focus on which will suit you better. Look into what it takes to be a Graphic Designer, and in the field of Multimedia and see what pertains more to your personality. Which one has skills that you are already good at. And if you still can not figure out which one is better for you it may be best to take an online quiz, that can help you make the decision. As a 7+ years graphic designer, I will said Multimedia if you really like it. Chance are you might fall into graphic designer if the multimedia side didn't work out for you like most people. In my field, almost everybody end up doing it by chance. I think I'm the only dummy who pay and majored in graphic when people around me study any other major and still end up with my job. Most of them do it because they think it's easy and their work in most case are not the best. It's sad but after 7 years I come to term with it.

I would go with Graphic Design. You can do alot of multimedia work as a graphic designer as well without having being pinned down to just that one form. I do alot of flash work for websites and create flash advertisments and animations.
But I am not limited to it and I can still do a lot of print work.
with Multimedia your tied down to just that.

im not in the field of graphic design, but as a student trying to get into it i think you should make yourself 'marketable' as my teacher emphasizes. What that means is try to learn both aspects of the fields, personally if I were interested I think web design/multimedia may make more money. but also, for both you really have to be in a good area, esp i think multimedia, it may be slightly more competitive of a field.

That depends on how good you are with graphic designs. Multimedia opens more vistas, but if you are very good with graphic designs go for it. Maybe you can mix the two. Good luck
