Lots of people have given me heck about my opinion, but I think I support it well.
Turner is a great pick for one simple reason: Continuity. SD is a team that has the pieces in place they just needed someone to play them. Turner basically installed that offense they run in SD, so nothing there will change. No worries of LT getting underutilized or anything like that. In fact, he'll probably improve it because the receivers need a much bigger role. Granted Turner is not a great coach, heck he may not have even been the best. He's just the best fit and that's what matters. He's great at building O-lines and installing offenses. He's also great with young QBs and to me that's what SD needs the most.
He brings his own Defensive play caller who runs the 3-4, so even the defense is in good hands. Turner comes with a great package of abilities, while other coaches maybe needed something to be added.
I relaize he's 24 games under .500 as a head coach, but not every head coach has started out great. I think in time, he'll prove to be a good choice.

I'm not sure if he is the best coach.
He was the best available person. Rest of other candidates I believe did not have previous head coaching experience so that played a part, I think. Also I don't think he will have conflicts with the GM like Marty did. GM wanted a "yes man" in my opinion.
On the other hand, I know that Norv Turner is better as a coordinator than a head coach. He is not a discipline kind of coach and had some problems in dealing with players in the past. He had some good years in Washington. His time with Oakland should not be considered. Could anyone have done better?? Doubt it.

No, I do not. A perfect analogy would be that he is getting the keys to a Ferrari high octane vehicle like the Chargers team and he is simply accustomed to driving mediocre vehicles like a Chevy Cobalt. He is not a good head coach which has been proven. He has success as a O-Coordinator, but when it comes to the head chief he simply cannot get it done. If he doesn't get this team to the playoffs, next year I think he's done. This team has so much talent and Norv Turner is not a good fit for this job. AJ Smith is the one that needs to go, and Marty Schottenheimer was perfect for this job. Norv Turner was doing good things in San Fran, and his players like Gore, and Smith were happy he didn't get the Dallas job. I simply don't feel it's a good match.

If the Chargers hire Norv Turner as their next Head Coach, then the Chargers are so screwed next season! Norv Turner has the reputation of being hired as a head coach of a team & screwing them up big time!

Yes...the people posting no are either too young or just not smart enough to remember Turner with the Redskins...They were at least competitive...Jerry Jones was stupid in hiring Wade Phillips instead of Norv Turner...Turner should be in Dallas...Phillips has had more failure than Turner...If anyone is just a coordinator, its Phillips...BTW, who had ELWAY with the Broncos, and sucked...need I say more...Watch and see...and to the fans bleeding for Schottenheimer, he had the best RB in the game, and he could not win a playoff game...

Norv Turner is a great teacher of the quarterback position, but he's not fit to be a head coach. bottom line, excellent coordinator, so-so head coach.

He has actually had a couple winning seasons. I don't think however that he's the best choice for the long term success of the Chargers. He may be acceptable for a year or two, but he's only won one playoff game in his carreer.

He hasn't had a lot of success in years past being a head coach, but look at what he is walking into. This is a superbowl caliber team if there ever was one. All he has to do is not screw it up.

No, not a good choice it is a step back from Shotz and I do not think him and LT are going to mesh well together San Diego really needs to be careful right now not to tick LT off with who they hire, Lt's main concern is to win the Super Bowl and if they take a step backwards I can see him getting frustrated and pulling a Barry Sanders and retiring in his prime.
