This is known as the ring of death. What MS recommends doing is to unplug everything from the 360, power a/v and if you have a harddrive that also. Reconnect everything and see if it works. If you still have the same problem you will have to call MS at 1-800-4MY-XBOX. Hopefully you are still in the warranty period, which is a year now. I have had one of my 360's have this problem and I did have to send it in. The second 360 I have has not had this problem.
I see we have a PS3 fan boy too. It's great he has a unit that doesn't overheat and what not since it probably does not get 1/100 of the playtime of any 360 since there really is nothing to play on it sans VF5 which comes out today. And yes I have a PS3 aslo since launch, and the only games I play on the thing are demos, which get old quick. My 360 gets worlds more playtime then that dust collecting PS3. Honestly though my PS2 get way more playtime then the PS3, that is kind of sad.

Is your 360 about 14 months old like the rest of the ones that seeme to be breaking down. In built breakdown problem maybe for the uk market. I heard they get 2 years in america. Is this true. Here's what you can do if its a hardware problem. Go online and get instructions on how you can take a 360 apart, including getting the serial number off without damaging it (Use of a hairdryer here set to warm works very well). Experiment on your own 360 taking it apart. Go buy another one (Core system) and take that one apart. Swap the cases round so that the internals of yours is in the new case and take it back to the shop and get your money back saying that its faulty and you heard load of reports about the 360 being unreliable. The shop will simply return it to their supplier so you will not be doing them. This sounds a bit sneaky and dishonest but when you have paid out all that money for a 360 you expect it to last longer than 15 months and microsoft should have perfected it before it went on sale. Maybe they got packard bell involved somewhere!!!! The old xbox was a very reliable piece of kit and its a shame the 360 isn't. I have a 360, got it for christmas and hoping if it goes wrong then it happens before this christmas this year. Anyone reading this should buy a nyko fan which slots on the back of the 360, They cool it down that much that when playing a game the 360 fan is hardly on at all. Get one off ebay for about £10.

everyone knows the answer to this question because it has happened to everyone who owns a 360. dont feel bad, you are one of many who had this happen. i bet that 200 bucks extra dont look so bad for the ps3. the ps3 never freezes or gets to hot and its not loud like the 360. that thing can wake the dead. call 1800 4 my xbox, send yours in, get a new one, sell it on ebay, and buy a ps3 and be happy. if you keep the 360 it will just do the same thing again. i guarantee it

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TAKE THIS ANSWER IT IS MOST DEFIENTLY YOUR SCART LEED MAKE SURE IT IS IN THE BACK OF YOUR TV PROPERLY IF IT IS MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT TO THE WRIGHT SEETING
check the small box scart adapter that goes into your xbox it should have a switch which has these options HDMI and TV to make the picture work
HDMI for a HD tv
TV for a non HD TV
if your problem still isnt answered it is then the cables that the scart lead uses are mixed up
HDTV colours are BLUE, GREEN AND RED for the PC component (the biggest part of the two scarts)
RED and WHITE for the audio scart (the smallest scart of the two)
TV colours are YELLOW, WHITE and RED use the scart the you can inscert these 3 colours it sould be a small box with the three colours on it
i hope this helps

When i first bought my xbox360 i took it home and hooked it imediatly. what happened to me sounds alot like what you are describing. I called the xbox tech support # which is in your manual or with any other xbox 360 stuff and they walked me through the set-up and start-up procedures. when this did not work it verified a problem with the console itself and i ended up having to take the console back and exchanging it for another. or i could have sent it in too xbox for repair.

you will get a instantaneous adapter for the xbox, yet that is costly (around a hundred$). yet another decision, is connecting a laptop to the xbox and utilising it as a instantaneous adapter with ICS (information superhighway connection sharing) - seek youtube for it in case you have an activity in that. yet another decision would be utilising a swap, that's variety of a "station" for the cable, the place you are able to connect yet another cable from it on your computing device, yet paying for an prolonged ethernet cable is greater basic - you will get one in any widely used computing device / game enthusiasts shop.

Well it could be a couple things...
The red comes on if your video cables aren't plugged in...
Also it could mean internal hardware failure... that is very bad.. that happened to my first one.
So check your cables before sending it in... and check to make sure your TV/ HD switch is to the right setting

It can be very bad. You might need to get it replaced. I had the same problem and needed to send it to Microsoft for a replacement. According to Microsoft, this indicates a hardware failure.
