I had surgery last Friday for a lateral meniscus which was completely detached and was reattached. I also have a torn ACL ligament which was not dealt with on this surgery. Prior to the surgery, my knee was very swolen and dislocated to the left. I am currently in a full splint and will probably need that for awhile? Any suggestions or has anyone gone through this? The knee is still unstable and I will probably need future surgery for the ACL ligament via ACL reconstruction.

Meniscus and ligament heal in 6wks or more. You may be looking at a bum knee for 2 months. At the end of that, it'll be a matter of seeing what (if anything) needs to be done about your ACL. Why wasn't it repaired in the original operation?

DJ, right it relatively is my answer. examine with the orthopedist that informed you to no longer have the surgical treatment. Ask purely how a number of of the ligament has been torn. no count number if it relatively is thoroughly torn then you definately are certainly going to choose surgical treatment and for that count number any volume at 50% or greater will choose surgical treatment. If the quantity is between 25 and 50% a 2d opinion would be a robust theory. If the tear is decrease than 25% it may no longer choose surgical stabilization. The ACL is an significant ligament through fact it keeps the femur, thigh bone, from slipping on the tibia, shin bone. without this ligament you will placed on away the meniscus and cartilage that are recent interior the knee. that would advise an early arthritic difficulty and discomfort. i'm no longer a huge believer in surgical treatment yet subsequently it might desire to be needed. As for the meniscus except you have become particular problems with locking of the knee or it giving out do no longer do this surgical treatment. This surgical treatment finally ends up in early deterioration of the meniscus and cartilage. artwork on strengthening the knee enormously the hamstrings.
