Myspace is dangerous along with EVERY Internet site. I have a myspace and I am under 18. I'd advise you to set your child's profile as"Private" which means that no one else can view their profile unless they are your child's friend. Myspace is a SAFE site if your child knows how to use it properly and knows what a pedafile is.
I understand the concern that many parents have with this site and it isn't a stupid concern. However, as a parent your job is to teach your child not to talk to people they don't know. Especially pedafiles etc. You teach your child not to do that in real life, correct? Then you should teach your child not to do this on myspace as well.
If your child doesn't accept friend request from people they don't know then there won't be a problem.
Try checking there account regularly. Make that a "condition" of them getting one. Just be like, "if you want a myspace then I will check it whenever i want and if i find anything bad then you won't have one anymore." Its simple. Don' complicate the issue like many other adults today are.

Keep them off...Myspace gives kids the anonymity to do things they normally wouldn't have the nerve to do...people can lie about anything on there, including their age, to get to them. Besides, it's not just the older people you have to worry about...The only good thing I can say about it is that you can tell the type of kid one is by the friends he has on his page...can be shocking what your kid associates with...Private profiles don't work....and people seem to be assuming their kids are gonna be innocent victims in all this...kids I know of have meet people off myspace all the time and there have been very bad results...

I want to share something with you. Yesterday I learned my sister in law is being stalked by a man(from Myspace) from another state. He sent her a very pricey gift and dropped by her work on Valentines Day. He's called her house, ect. Her name that appears on her account is not her last name. Still, he managed to find her work, and home phone, which is under her husbands name. I have a teen brother who uses Myspace and this worries me. I just say, teach your kid extra saftey. Never use real first or last names, numbers, dont even list real states. Good luck.

Monitor what you're kids do on Myspace... create you're own account so u can spy what there doing on there account, don't bother blocking it there is tons of ways 2 go into it! Private definetly helps! Let you're children be on it, let kids be kids. However, lay down the law and tell um what appropriate and what is not!

One of my old co-worker's 15-16 year old daughter is on myspace. So as a joke she had me go on my myspace and send her stalker-ish messages...I know it was a mean joke..she freaked out that night until her mom and dad told her what really was going on. But I think she learned her lesson about making her profile private and/or not putting up things on her profile to attract unwanted strangers.

There's only two options. Be a better parent or block myspace.

I opened a my space account day before yesterday and I closed it down today. Don't even let your kid go to my space. It is so graphic. Kids don't need to see those things.
