Depression manifests itself differently in different people. Here are some of the symptoms I could think of off the top of my head (you could google "depression symptoms" for a better list):

- No motivation to do anything, even getting out of bed in the morning
- Crying often, for no apparent (or no good) reason
- Not wanting to eat, or eating too much
- Trouble sleeping
- Easily irritated, snapping at others for little things
- Trouble focusing on tasks
- Vague pains, stomach aches, back aches, headaches
- Not enjoying things you always used to enjoy

The difference between "just having one of those days" and being depressed is that depression lasts for weeks (or months or years). There are lots of diagnostic tests for depression online you can try, too, but only a doctor can diagnose depression.
