If Baghdad becomes secure and the violence decreases, what will be their new strategy for 08? If the surge does succeed, can Obama or Clinton actually win in 08? How will they respond to criticizisms from the GOP?

The same way they responded when Ronald Reagan's policies finally tumbled the USSR into bankruptcy and collapse.
Americans seem to have a short memory - and democrats have a short AND selective memory.

If the war in Iraq proves to be a successful policy - the democrats will simply shift their focus to pro-choice, the border, Katrina, illegal immigration policies, global warming and countless other issues that they will miraculously have discovered "solutions" for.

You know what? If Bush's strategy suddenly started working tomorrow and it somehow came out that he actually had a plan for all this crap that none of us knew about and that extenuating circumstances had forced him to let North Korea develop nuclear weapons right under his nose and that Hezbollah was actually a force of good in the world that needed to be strengthened and that the earth were going to self-destruct before global warming becomes an issue anyway and that there were a world-wide conspiracy infecting all news media except Fox with identical erroneous data as if that were feasible, then I would stop thinking Bush is a complete f**k-up.

As it is, the guy's a dunderhead.

You mean the ESCALATION?

Won't work.

The Iraq War is over and Bush lost.

The Democratic strategy will continue to be: Look after the best interests of the middle and working classes and don't tell lies that get us into unwinnable wars.

Criticism from Republicans is meaningless. Bush has proven to be easily the most incompetent and corrupt "president" in our history yet the Republicans continue to blame Clinton (either Bill or Hillary) for everything that ever happened (except, of course, the great 1990's economy and the surplus Bill left. You know, the one Bush The Lesser squandered.)

It's more than just securing Baghdad. Do you think these insurgents and terrorists are simply going to up and leave? Well, they may leave, but they will be back after they see how the military acts and conducts themselves. This is going to be going on for quite sometime, but I would ask you when will it be determined that it is over?

If the security works, it has nothing to do with the "surge." The US Gov't finally started using their monkey brains and realized that they need to seal off the borders, especially with Iran. If they closed the borders from the beginning, we might have succeeded. Most of the suicide bombers and terrorists are from Iran that infiltrated Iraq. The Iraqis that affiliated with the insurgency is because their weapons are being supplied from Iran.

Our efforts have already been successful with the Kurds, but we haven't begun to support their desire for their own nation. They do view us a liberators and friends.

And still we waste our time with the Shiites and Sunnis...

It would be wonderful if the surge works...but the odds are against it.

They won't respond! They will simply slither into another political hot spot, in order to keep the pot stirred, and the country divided. Solidarity would not serve the party to the left. They need to keep the lemmings believeing that conservatives are lepers and the liberals are their salvation!

Don't worry about it. We can't make a difference in a country of religous fanatics. If there are no strong GOP candidates. All politicians should be able to handle critcism.
