Deep inside the ball of string, there is a hard core of rubber. How far the ball goes when hit depends on how dense the core is.

Basically just a bunch of thread wound up really tight. Then towards the middle is this fabric stuff. You should cut one open, everybody should at least once. It's crazy how much thread is in there, maybe a mile.
