Americans Are not as racist as you may think. Were you may find this is in the select few that want to express there opinions. I am an American and in no way shape or form would I criticise others because of there race. There was a period in time were racism was common, but that has died down. Because of the attack on our country September 11, 2001, there have been some racial discrimination out of fear. This was focused on Muslims, but because of what I believe in, I do not judge anyone because of there race, nationality, religion, or any other differences. As far as I can tell, It does not matter what someone looks like or believes in, they are still human and they deserve the same rights as anyone else.

Oh, For your Information, we Americans have laws against racial discrimination inwhich we cannot tell a black man that he cannot stay at a hotel or get a job at a business because of the color of his skin. Most of the racism existed before I was born. I am not saying that there is no racism, but we do get the black people saying things like, "You are just saying that because I am black" even though they know that is not true. You also hear comments like white people can't rap and so on and so forth, but when someone says that, everybody turns there head. It is not excepted in our society to express racism. People may be racist, but they have the desinsy to not say anything. What is predjudice are the things I see Europeans saying about Americans.

I saw one that said Americans were Uneducated. That is not true for most people. Now we even have it were people who cannot afford to go to school can go to school on a Federal Program. Please do not misjudge us.

I'm guessing because it's so ingrained in US history. It was an
issue before the country's founding, whether we are talking
about the slaves who were imported from Africa, the
indigenious peoples (Native Americans), or even certain
groups (Jews, Irish, Italians, Catholics). Ok, Jews and
Catholics aren't really a race, but these groups faced
discrimination in the USA as well. Let's remember the great colonial European powers, England, France, and Spain, all played an important role in the early stages of US history. You can say they still might to this day, if you look at France (Statue
of Liberty, Louisiana), Spain (Spanish is the second most-widely
spoken language in the USA after English I believe) and England
(UK is arguably the USA's top ally, and English is the number one
language not in the USA, but in many parts of the world, especially in the Western world). Colonialism/Imperialism is racist, since it exploits people to achieves its' wealth.
I have read somewhere the Nazis during Hitler's time in Germany were patterned after the KuKluxKlan. The only difference was the KKK targeted mainly blacks, but also Communists, labor unions and Catholics, and represented themselves at times as a Christian organization. The Nazis, were probably not so involved with religion, but Hitler's mother, Klara was a good Catholic woman. If you're wondering why Adolph turned out the way he did, it was because his father,
Aloise, was a real you know what, but let's just say he was very
strict and strern, and I think he was also an alcoholic. I can't say the actual word, or I could get a violation notice for saying it.
Another reason is certain racial groups haven't been totally
accepted by certain members of other racial groups. For the most part, USA is mostly against racism, and most of the people
abhor the concept of racism and other forms of discrimination,
but the racists and bigots that exist make more noise than the
people who are not. I'm sure this is probably the case in other
countries as well. It's interesting you brought up this question
on this month. MLK's marches during the 1960s probably really
brought the issue to the forefront, along with his assassination,
and that of Malcolm X.

I read a funny thing on a US forum some redneck shouted at a an Indian (as in apache) To "go back to his own country"

In europe we have the nazis and in USA they have the KKK,Aryan nation etc though in Europe we are much more liberal and the majority have been tolerant.

I read an interesting article about the KKK and the Nation of Islam, interestingly the two groups have been meeting as they both have the same goal, separate black and white states in America.

There just seems to be even more distrust there, bit like South Africa.

To the poster below WTF are you on about, there were studies showing that England is the most tolerant, in Europe.
France - remember paul sarkosky talking about immigrants, in italy footbal fans wrote "we dont want the dirty ni**ga" on the stadium wall after Paul Inces transfer. Remember the Spanish making monkey sounds when british black soccer players were on the pitch.

I believe it's getting better, but little by little. I was only born in 1985, but nowadays racism is more the kind where you speak politcally correct & don't mind hiring illegals to work for you but you want a fence up on the Mexico border. There's no denying white superamcy groups like the KKK still exist, but the cross burning, brick throwing, & white cape wearing image is in a different form now.

I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THAT RACISM IS THE DEVILS WAY OF KEEPING ALL GODS CHILDREN PITIED AGAINST ONE ANOTHER FOR HIS SATISFACTION. WE ALL HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE AND READ ABOUT HISTORY FROM ONE SOURCE OR ANOTHER . HOWEVER, REMEMBERING MYSELF IN THE 1950'S AND SIXTIES IN GOOD OLD USA. BLACKS WERE STILL BEING HUNG, BURNED , DROWNED FOR JUST BEING BLACK FOLKS OR CHILDREN IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME. NO REAL REASON. NO CRIME EITHER .SO DO I BELIEVE RACISM IS STILL A BIG ISSUE IN AMERICA TODAY. YES, YES .ITS NOW SAID TO BE BECAUSE BLACKS COMMIT A CRIME AND ARE SHOT DOWN LIKE DOGS IN THE STREET OR EITHER BEAT DOWN LIKE ONE BY THE VARY PEOPLE WE TRUST TO PROTECT US AND OUR PROPERTY.I'M SURE I DON'T NEED ANYONE TO KILL A PERSON BECAUSE THEY STOLE MY MONEY OR PERSONAL BELONGINGS, JUST ARREST THE PERSON IF YOU CAN WITHOUT KILLING THEM. I UNDERSTAND NO MATTER WHAT RACE IT IS IF THEY HAVE A GUN OR KNIFE THAT'S DIRECTED AT A OFFICER OF THE LAW WELL THEY HAVE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FIRST. SO WHY HAVE SO MANY UNARMED BLACKS BEEN KILLED, BECAUSE THE WHITE PEOPLE THAT PROTECT US HAVE RACIAL PROBLEMS WITH BLACK FOLKS OR PEOPLE OF COLOR.JOB WISE THERE IS STILL SOME WORK TO BE DONE, BECAUSE EMPLOYERS TODAY LOOK AT EDUCATION MORE AND TRUST WORTHY ,CREDIT AND CRIMINAL BACK GROUND. SO RACE IS NOT SO MUCH AN ISSUE AS THESE FACTORS I HAVE FOUND IN MY 66 YRS ON THIS EARTH.

.. and you will find that over 50% of the racist comments on this site are from Americans. They are just not as integrated a society as Britain is for example. A very good example of this is to go to the USA and see hown many mixed race couples there are. Even if there are lots there are still parts of America they cannot been seen in together!

A German friend of mine went to the USA about 3 years ago with her Indian [from India] female friend. They hired a car and drove through the Southern States and one of the gas attandants in a particular town refused to fill up their car with petrol because the woman was Asian. My German friend vowed not to return to the USA as she was so upset about the treatment that her friend had been afforded. A good friend of mine from Alaska has also told me that there are some parts of Southern America that black and white people can't be seen together in even if they are just friends or they'll get beaten up. I find that so weird to be honest!

That could never happen in the UK because of our race relations legislation..... no matter what anyone says the US is pretty bad for racism.

Have you ever honestly heard of a White person being offended by being called white???

The British (according to Radio 2 three weeks ago) are viewed generally by Indians (in India) as being "racist"; but bearing in mind that many British people are African, White, Chinese, Indian, etc - their general view claims that all these ethnic groups are equally racist - sounds about right to me...

To be racist is to be retarded.

What I have notices since surfing Yahoo Q&A

Is that racism seems to be connected to the fact that people dont like themselves(deep rooted)......so they lash out at others in a attempt to relieve their pain and inflicting it on others.....
