I couldn't agree with you more. As a republican, I would vote for him.
P.S. To the posters that say he has no experience well neither did Martin Van Buren when he ran but the people of America recognized the need for change and responsible government.

To answer your Question: we focus on those other things because we don't know that he has any ability. He wants to be the President of the United States, and he has 2 years experience. What else should we concentrate on? He went to a Muslim school as a small child, what conditioning from that time is part of the man that he is now? Can he be objective when Muslims are the people who want Americans dead? His lack of experience does not make me a racist,,, that would be you for thinking his race is the only thing of importance.

What ability? I mean seriously, dude, the guy is a freshman senator! He was introduced no pertinent legislation during his few years on the job, and he has yet to prove that he can formulate a budget, or run a branch of government. This is why so many Governors go on to become President. I can't stand Bush, so please don't think I'm shilling for him, but I'm tired of people like you trying to make it a race issue when it's not! The guy has virtually no experience!!
He would probably make a better candidate in 8 years after he gets a bit more time to prove himself.
P.S. To Charlooch ... Van Buren was a one-term, do nothing President.

Because you can't get to where your going with out knowing where you've been.
Disclosing past events and relationships are important when choosing a commander in chief. Had America known that George Bush doesn't know JACK about foreign policy do you think everyone would have voted for him?
Don't ever believe a politician that gives promises either. Need I mention: "No New Taxes!!!"

I am glad they are underestimating him. Obama has a great message and could be a threat if he can get past Hillary. I like him better than any of the other candidates. I, for one, am sick of "experienced" politicians brining the same old crap to Washington. he is the first candidate in a long time that I actually feel positive about.
Johnny...he worked with a group of senators to develop a system to secure nuclear weapons worldwide and make sure they do not fall into the wrong hands.

We always focus on things other than ability. We are looking at Obama's race, Hillarys sex, but we also see articles and news stories focused on the fact Mitt Romney is a Mormon. People focused on George Bush being a New Born Christian, and John Kerry in Vietnam, Bill Clinton and his sexual exploits, ect. ect. ect. This is always going to be the case. We can't focus on the facts. Whether you like Obama or not, we should focus on his politics, same with Mitt Romney, or George Bush, or Hillary Clinton, but people always make it personal, and always will.

Because the "ability" is not there. He has no experience. His resume is weak. He is a product, made by the Democrats, to entice the minority vote. Take away skin color and he is not a viable nominee for the presidency of the United States.

Calling others raciest is not a good way to promote your candidate. Leads one to wonder how we would be treated after the election

What exactly has he proven that he is able to do? Speak well?
I agree, though, that people should focus on politicians' abilities as opposed to their race, sex, etc.
Steve C.- Wow, that's quite a resume. You sure changed my perception.
