I am interested in hearing the stories of anyone in ONTARIO CANADA who has used a midwife. I am 4 months pregnant, and having trouble finding an OB GYN, so I am looking into midwifery.
IF you can let me know how your midwife experience went, and how you and your family felt about it, please let me know!!

My midwife experience was amazing. Being a first time mom, I couldn't have asked for better care. Basically my midwife team's philosophy was one of informed choice. They provided me a bunch of information and I made the decisions based on the information and feedback from my midwife team. I gave birth in the hospital and was discharged 36 hours after I first arrived. That was great. My appointments were never rushed and I felt so comfortable talking to my midwives. The post partum care was great. 6 weeks of having someone on call is worth it. If you are looking into a Midwife I suggest you start calling now as in many communities they tend to book up fast. You will not regret the experience. Good luck and feel free to message/email me if you have any questions!

Well to tell you the truth I used an unlicenced (which is illegal) midwife. I have problems with the regulations surrounding midwifery care in Ontario which prevents them from doing many things, and forces them to do things that they know are not in the best interest of mom and baby. Also I was only looking for a back-up midwife as I was planning an unassisted birth, though originally I was looking for normal prenatal care. In the end I looked at everything I was going to decline and figured everything I wanted done I could do myself.

However compared to OB care I am sure they are fine. I was just looking for an actual midwife, not a "medwife".

My birth experience is a long and horrible story as I took the advice to go to the hospital after 3 days of labour. Never again. Not in a million years will I step foot in a hospital again while I am in labour. But it isn't relevant to midwifery care so I won't get into it.

I can't remember how many of the group are from Ontario, and I haven't been checking in for awhile. Also the group is aimed more at unassisted childbirth but there are a fair number of homebirth with midwife people there as it is hard to find enough Canadians to make a group.

Not me personally but my best friend did and she had 2 fabulous home births 9lbs and 12 lbs- both of which I was present for. The midwife was totally supportive - she was amazing really. They are trained to deal with any medical emergencies and if necessary will make the call to go to the hospital. It is possible to have the midwife deliver your baby in the hospital too- it is a benefit because they do everything they can to prevent unnecessary surgeries and ripping. Even with the 12 lb baby my friend had no ripping. It all just seemed so much more personal and intimate as a birth should be. Good luck with your decisions!
