Ford Prefect from The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Douglas Adams.

It would be so cool if you got to research the whole wide galaxy and write enter it into a revised edition of a bestselling book in the form of a calculator.

Easy to answer flippantly, but rather more difficult if you think about it. Hmmm, i think i might choose to be Jo from Little Women, Good Wives, Jo's Boys etc.

I choose Jo from the March sisters because:

Beth - died young so wouldnt want to be her.
Amy - maybe, but her child had health problems and also i'm not suited to her more elegant lifestyle.
Meg - maybe, but her husband died young, so not so good!

Jo had a husband who she loved and who loved her. She was a writer, which is a career i wish i'd done, and also she had a good life with a close family around her, and two healthy boys, and all the fun of Plumfield with all those boys that she looked after in her little school.

Betsy Taylor from MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series. Being a vampire queen sounds like fun.

Helena Justina in the Falco novels - she's beautiful, smart, daring, has a good sense of humour and isn't afraid to follow her heart even if that means breaking with conventions. She's a senator's daughter with a pepper warehouse so she's not short of cash either.

I would be "Scout" in the book, To Kill A Mocking Bird, I like the time she grew up in and the way her father was teaching her to grow. Also, she had no problem asking questions about what was going on in her town and wasn't scared of much.

The vampire Lestat, since it's so far the only way to attain immortality.

There are many mere mortals in fiction I'd like to be, but I'll limit it to one: Sherlock Holmes - intelligent, witty & no criminal was his match, though he was frustrated a lot by the evil Moriarity.

Dr Who. Imagine the adventures and the fact you have a mode of transport that can go anywhere. Or DEATH from the Terry Pratchett books. He has a lovely horsey and I have always wanted a horsey!

I would be DEATH from Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. He gets to see some mighty interesting sights, ride about on a horse called Binky, and has a marvellous dry wit.
