In my eyes a lot. I had a friend and the friendship has spaned over fifty years about. During the 50-60 I could not believe that she was going through so much. A local pool would not allow her in! Of all things. I would swim with her because she was a good person. Her whole family had work values and moral values and were very community oriented individuals. On a local level I was educated in propaganda from my mother. Sure they had propoganda because mom explained that when they cleaned up the livingroom before I could visit, it was the magazines that got put away. So what. They had a heritage to uphold and pass to their children. Their life was not free from suffering any more than my life as a white person has been free from suffering. In our home my mother made sure exposure to the blacks was done in a positive manner. She liked Nat King Cole's music/she tolerated my listening to Liberace at an early age.
I am glad there is no black and white places. Each culture has so much to offer the children. There should of been no "walls or barriers"

Not nearly enough if you are speaking of the 1950-1960 issues. I suppose there is a lot of opinion involved here, but mine is that blacks and whites are equal in God's eyes, so why did they ever have to ride in the back of the bus anyhow. They didn't ask to be stolen from their homes in Africa and treated like dogs. I heard on TV in about 2002, that in the deep south, they still have separate proms for one high school, one for blacks and one for whites. I was born in 1950 and thought things were much better than that and I was abhorred that it is still going on so evidently and outwardly, but I live on the west coast, so I'm sure things are much different .
