In essense, it gives the U.S. government unbridled authority to do what it wants to do in the name of "national security"[ that is the operative and catch all words], constitutional laws are usurped in the process, and many of our rights are abridged.

It is a dichotomy with words Patriot Act. sounds like if you wouldn't support it that you are not a Patriot. I don't support it and spent 20 years in the military. It allows our government to do things that prior they would have to have had a court to do, like spying on us. We now let our government be intrusive and this violates the very air that I breath. It came about because of 9/11 but you would almost think that the government would have to had created 9/11 to have so much power over the proletariat, and don't believe for one minute that the new laws are enforced on one and all equally

the patriot act is what congressed passed without being allowed to read, right after bush and company brought down the twin towers. Now they can spy on us, arrest us without probable cause, lock us up for life without even seeing a judge, force you to wear a wire and spy on your neighbors, and destroys the bill of rights.

"the constitution is just a goddamn piece of paper!"
- George W Bush

Those who support the patriot act would also probably prefer to live in a dictatorship, like bush does.

The President always says that the terrorists hate us for our freedom, which is what's so clever about the Patriot Act, because by taking away so much of our freedom, they won't hate us so much.
