Ok, some friends challenged me to a quarter-mile race in their 97 Supra, 91 Civic, and 98 Acura. They're all easily 12 second cars. I haven't examined what's under their hood closely, but I know they're heavily modified. I have a 5.0L V8, fuel injected, 88 Chevy Iroc z28 Camaro. Stock, I know I can beat these guys off the line. But now, it's a different story. I haven't told them its still a stock car but they challenged me, and I HATE losing. For a near 11 second car, I'm looking for somewhere between 400-600HP on this thing without going overboard on the price (I know it costs tho). I wanna kill em off the line. What "under the hood" upgrades am I going to be looking for to get this sort of power? Am I gonna need the 5.7L or a L1 engine or can I stick with what I've got? What parts am I gonna need to invest in first, specifically?

Either a supercharger or turbo kit with intercooler. Visit www.highperformanceengines.com for some engines that are more easily modified and will probably work better than your 5.0L. I recommend the chevy 350 cubic inch ram air V8 with a 9.4:1 compression. I'd get that and put on either the supercharger or turbo set to about 5-6 lbs boost. Sell your 5.0L on ebay to get some of the $ difference back. It will be a lot of work and cost some money, but you'll end up winning. Good luck.

Whats your rear gearing? is it posi? is the Iroc auto or standard? Have you played with the timing? A small nitrous kit should give enough boost to eat them.

Look at it this way too, I have a few GTO's, these are old recycled battleships, ( 32-3700 lbs), why play with recycled barbie dolls with trashcan exhausts. That Iroc will be worth more than the civics ect that the tards went an bought to be cool. Who cares if they're faster, they're lighter weight and expendable, a quick solution to an ego inferiority complex based on the to fast an furious crap. Anyone can buy a POS honda. But can you make a fat girl like mine run in the 11's or 12's, if you can, win or loose, you've done something. There's always someone out there bigger an badder, so why worry. Thats why real race fanatics have weight and modification classes.

First try drawing some sense of self reliability from other women, they can be anyone. Historical figures such as Cleopatra, Mother Teresa, Queen Elizabeth I etc. or they can even be people around you like friends, family member and so forth. Try finding something that will make you feel empowered or at least feel like you contributing to society. Like volunteering for animal shelters, homeless shelter, troubled kids etc. Or anything that will keep you busy. Try picking a hobby, at least GIVE it a chance as boring some things may sound: reading, exercising, writing, cooking etc. Or get a pet if you feel bored and lonely. If you still not able to gain enough independence then perhaps seek some help from a councilor or a support group. This is 2000's and for over centuries women have fought to be on the same equal status quo of men, to be able to do what they can do (although in some areas the battle still continues). So take advantage of what us women have now. Beside guys like it when women are self confident and can look after themselves. These days married women are expected to have jobs while taking care of their children - a balanced out schedule between partners. Guys like it when they see a girl who rely on themselves, just like how us women prefer men who too are independent.
