Not long at all. I take off about one a month. The procedure is uncomfortable for a short period when the local is injected, and then painless from that time on. I use a mixture of lignocaine and marcaine as anaesthetic, one is short acting and the other long acting. The result is that the injected anaesthetic lasts about 7 hours. Patients tell me that by the time it wears off there is little or no pain in the toe. It is thus possible to walk about fairly free of pain the next day.

There is a but however. A dressing needs to be kept on the toe and a shoe, slipper or sandal which allows you to do this with no pressure on the toe. This may limit your activity. If the procedure is done in a similar way to my own, this dressing can usually be discarded after 5-7 days unless the toe was badly inflamed and swollen when the op was performed.

I had mine removed and I wasn't totally off my feet. I could stil walk, even out of the office, it was just a little sore - and I had a small limp for about a day. If your job intales you to be on your feet a lot, I would say maybe 1-2 days

Ouchy! I hate to assert it, yet I were given a finger stuck in an equipment on a affected individual mattress and it took over a three hundred and sixty 5 days for the nail to look thoroughly known again. The nail grew again, besides the undeniable fact that it grow to be gruesome for that length of time. Sorry.

I have had both my big toenails removed. Not at the same time mind you, but I could still walk. It will be sore and tender for awhile till it starts to heal, but you should have no problem walking as long as you walk on your heel.
Good luck.
