Well, obviously if the music is appealing to me. I like music that has a full sound (for lack of a better way to explain it). I like all kinds of music. For the rap - hip/hop - R&B - pop genre, it has to have a catchy tune (again, lack of a better way to say that). Mostly I like rock though, and it has to be full and rock. I rate rock on a scale of 1 - 10. 1 being it does not make me want to break things or hit someone, and 10 being it makes me want to tear up a whole floor of a hotel.

Now, I can like a particular song, of even a couple from a band, but not be able to stand the band. Limp Bizkit for instance. I think they have a couple of pretty good songs, but Fred Durst is a punk-b*tch, and all their covers lately have made them seem a little cheesy in my eyes. Especially in 'behind blue eyes' with the speak-and-spell part.

Another for instance, is I only like a few songs from Linkin Park, but I have alot of respect for them as a band. They try REALLY ,REALLY hard, work their asses off and deserve the success they have. I saw them live and they sounded great...but, I only like a few songs of theirs anyway.

For me, I think a good band/artist should have good songs. Not only the tune should be good but also the lyrics. They should have a unique character and it also wouldn't hurt if they were hot. But most of all, I think a good band/artist is really good when it can influence a new generation of music. to determine if it sucks, well, it just sucks!

It's the person's opinion. Sure people will agree on things time to time but it's all about you.

There's some things that can factor into thinking that a band/artist sucks or not. Sometimes people say they "suck" just to fit in the crowd.

Factors:
*The artist's lyrical content
*How catchy the music is
*The image of the band of artist
*If they are unique or not
*How mainstream they are [not all mainstream artists/bands "suck", they just catch a wide audience]
*&various other reasons

OK...something that distinguishes whether a band sucks or not a list coming here
1. The singer makes his lyrics pure indecisable GoLd
2. The songs are catchy
3. They manage to show promise beyond 1 or 2 released singles (ie Nirvana, MCR and Green Day)
4. The songs are easy to play
5. They sound good live-even if it's unplugged (ie Clapton, Nirvana, REM)

Hitler had it in for dissimilar communities. The Jews were his maximum hated traget, yet he also exterminated tremendous numbers of Slavs, gypsies, homosexuals, communists, Jehovah's Witnesses, the mentally and physcially handicapped, and anybody who he concept will be a threat to his new international order. So there have been dissimilar the reason why you would finally end up destined for a spotlight camp, and they weren't all to do including your appearnce. Even Jewish people from time to time have blue eyes, and also you'd be a blue-eyed communist, gay, Jehovah's Witness, mentally handicapped individual etc. It wasn't all about looks. the guidelines your instructor has given you is inadequate and deceptive. Hitler did not kill people basically because they did no longer have blue eyes, nor did he unavoidably enable them stay in the adventure that they DID have blue eyes.

I play instruments and I sight-read music.

So for me, it all depends on how well they know the craft of music. If the artist/band have more of a hand in different avenues of the music like composition, lyrics, playing the instruments, etc, they'll get more respect from me. (Ray Charles, Mozart, etc.)

Nowadays, it's more of people just singing and they hire other people to take care of the other aspects.

Also, the content has be good.

Mainly if I like it or not. Also if it's the band's music not the record labels music. But there is other ways I determine whether I like it to. But I don't know.

Usually, if an artist has no talent or all their songs are the same, that's what I consider as "sucking".

however, some artists, such as Avril Lavigne and Fergie, are catchy and addictive, even thought they do suck.

Their style, originality, etc. I seriously do not like to listen to artists or bands who just sound like everyone else does.

the lyrics!! it takes a real good artist/band to write good stuff. also how well they perform LIVE thats when you can tell if the band is the real thing or just computerized.
