I am a AUTO,RESIDENTIAL AND SAFE AND VAULTS LOCKSMITH.I graduated w/top honors from college to learn this to help people.
I am LICENCED,BONDED AND INSURED.
My husband who is also a locksmith doesn't have a problem with it except for the fact I make more money than he does.
MY BROTHER-IN-LAW AND UNCLE ARE LOCKSMITHS.THEY DON'T LIKE IT,THEY SAY"MEN SHOULD BE LOCKSMITHS.
are they offended that i make more money than them?or is it an EGO ISSUE?
Also customers(men) don"t like the idea of a woman doing this type of work.I have heard some ungodly rude comments and remarks.I have gotten to the point if a man says something stupid to me,my response is:I HAVE MY KEYS,DO YOU WANT YOURS?
men,pls tell me why there is such an issue here?
thank you for your time!!

A woman with power tools and the knowledge to use them is Schweet!
Ok, all kidding aside, that is life , in the Christian, Judeo , Muslim or whatever politic, religion that is in effect, the guys at least want to think they are some higher form of being. I do not agree with this nor do I ascribe to such petty insecurities.
If a person can make a key or fix a lock that person is a locksmith. Pretty simple logic there.
I have been with women in situations that alot of the guys that I know would not be able to cope with. We all bleed blood, we all have skin, we all have brains, some use them.
I prefer to be around the people that use there minds.

It's the gender taboo. Most people believe that gender is NOT fluid and most people think there are only two possible and unchangeable genders: Male and Female. Having a gender presentation that doesn't fix their myopic "norm" makes them extremely uncomfortable. The idea that the heart of who they are, at the chemical level can be altered so dramatically, that this "badass tough guy" persona really is only skin deep and that if some "tranny" can transform herself into a more congruent gender, (i.e. female), that means that a pretty pink dress is only a few little pills away. When some challenged individuals first see through the looking-glass, it's just too much for them. Poor macho souls.

Some men may be insecure. Perhaps it is emasculating for them to see a women competently performing a job that they themselves feel that they should be able to do, as a man. I think it is an ego thing, like when my boyfriend can't get the pasta sauce jar open and I walk by and open it for him. Men want to be the stronger ones, and they want to be the ones getting people (women) out of a predicament, not the other way around. It's a sign of immaturity and insecurity.

there are already some great answers here, so let me just add what hasn't been mentioned here: the Freudian angle. Guys like their penises and they prefer women stick to having vaginas. You get to carry around a big set of penises, and can pick any hole you see fit. That leaves a man feeling pretty inadequate with just his one that he only gets in a few holes a week if he's lucky. I imagine the rude comments go along this line.

One it makes men feel less handy.
Two it gives you access to mens houses and cars a lot more. So cheating on you is kind of a bad idea.
Three if someone does cheat on you, well your not going to have a problem ransacking the house or car on the inside rather than the eggs that are sometimes busted on the outside.

This is easy... most men need a locksmith when they have...locked their keys in car/house.... or lost their keys....or are kicking someone out of the house.

This can be embarrassing. So when a woman shows up they are embarrassed!

This is not a good reason... but most likely THE reason.

Ok its the "one of the guys syndrome". Amongst many male groups being able to pick locks and hot wire cars is a measure of maleness.

To be out done by a woman will only dent their ego's further.

Why anyone would think they have some inherent natural ability to pick locks is beyond me but I can do it ;-)

I don't know about everyone else...but a woman locksmith is a turn on for me. I know you're married, but a woman lock picker sounds sexy to me.

It probably goes back to the days of chastity belts. We didn't want women to have the knowledge to get out of them.
