I remember the state of my city 'New Bombay' 20 years ago. A city with uneven transport facilities, quite few hospitals and schools, we had to wait for atleast an year for a telephone connection, shortage of water supply, etc. And now 'New Bombay' renamed as 'Navi Mumbai' is known to be a knowledge city with large no. of schools, colleges, hospitals, random transport facilities, adequate water supply, etc. It is also termed as an mini IT globe. Isn't that development.

20 years ago, when I visited my native place - 'Himachal Pradesh' I had to walk on and climb those slopes. I had to walk upto about 20 kms. There was nothing like schools, electricity, telephones, in that area. And now, I find a school in almost every corner, comupter education being implemented in those schools, Roads reaching upto hieghts one could just dream of, adequate electricity, telecommunication facilities, etc. Isn't that development?

I stated an example of the places I have visited the most. I'm sure a lot of people could tell about the progress they have seen in their areas in these decades.

Bottomline is, India is progressing, and progressing at a good speed. The only thing is that we still have a long way to go...

:-)

There is no doubt that India will become a powerhouse very soon. It's strengh is based on the excellent quality of it's educational system. The fact that english is almost a national language helps a great deal too. Good universities, very bright people, excellent engineers, hard working people. What else can you ask for. There is no way they can go wrong.
I had an indian friend at the university in the US. He didn't use a calculator in engineering! He made all the calculations in his head, faster than me, with my HP!!
