People of Dwarka started taking it for granted that God is by their side. They started plundreing their liberty. As a result the wrath of the almighty devoured all of the inhabitants of dwarka along with the city. This was a message to the whole world that no one, no one would be spared if they start taking thier freedom and their support liberally...

As per Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarka -
The legendary city of Dvaraka in Hindu mythology was the dwelling place of Krishna. It is believed that, due to damage and destruction by the sea, Dvaraka has submerged six times and modern Dwarka is the 7th city to be built in the area. It is located in the Jamnagar District of Gujarat. It is on the mouth of the Gomti River into Gulf of Kutch. The city lies in the westernmost part of India.
But another source says -

Evidences are that a tusmani hit the western coast of India about 8000 years, but Dwarka submerged due to rise in the sea level. The sea level has always been changing, he said, due to various climatic factors. Studies show that sea level was 100 meters below the present sea level 15,000 years BP, rose steadily and was 60-70 metres below present sea level 10,000 years BP. In the next 1500 years it reached to 40 metres below present sea level, came at par with the present sea level around 7000 years BP, then rose by five metres in the next 1000 years.
But another historical source says - http://www.geocities.com/narenp/history/info/city.htm -
- After Sri Krishna left for the heavenly abode, and the major Yadava heads were killed in fights among themselves; Arjun went to Dwarka to bring Krishna's grandsons and the Yadava wives to Hastinapur. After Arjun left Dwaraka, it was submerged in the sea. This is the account given by Arjun, in Mahabharat:
"The sea, which had been beating against the shores, suddenly broke the boundary that was imposed on it by nature. The sea rushed into the city. It coursed through the streets of the beautiful city. The sea covered up everything in the city. I saw the beautiful buildings becoming submerged one by one. In a matter of a few moments it was all over. The sea had now become as placid as a lake. There was no trace of the city. Dwaraka was just a name; just a memory." -
Any way the fact remains that Dwaraka remain sumerged in sea-
