You don't tell us what your company does specifically which could make all the difference, other than that it is apparently something to do with the media. Also I don't know what you want the logo to do, what you want it to say about the company etc
so all i can really do is offer my impression, what i get from the logos as they stand...
The logo definately makes me think media, in particular maybe a radio station and then once thats been brought to mind, obviously radio 4 is the most obvious with the 4 being so prominant. for this reason then i would suggest that (counting along from top left) number 5 or 8 work best, in that with these the 4 becomes more of an abstract shape and then reminds me less specifically of radio 4.
(i'm guessing this is a UK company)
I would say that 1 3 and 4 look like album covers (elvis costellos 'almost blue' springs quite forceably to mind) whether this is something you want to conjure up is your choice of course.
the clever thing about the design then is, as mentioned above it is reminsicent of plenty of media related things without (potentially) being too much like anything in particular. this is a good thing if you want to the logo to conjure up a company that can be trusted - as opposed to edgey. it looks like a solid, familiar, reliable and informed company
my personal favourite is number 5 because it is simple in shape and colour, being monochrome and looks cooler than the rest, i feel.
the blue tones that have been used are all ok, but the blue that is used exclusively on this one is the nicest i think. it is muted which gives a slightly serious edge, if you want to make it a bit more friendly then maybe the main shade in No.6 would work better, being more 'sky' blue
I have plenty of experience in this field - email me via my profile here on answers if you want more info, i'd be glad to help more if i can

I like the first one on the second line or the very last one.
The 4 should deginately have the gap I don't like your examples of ones without a gap.
I like the mix of light and dark blues and I like the second line because it will get people thinking a bit but its not impossible to figure out the name either.
The last one says the whole name at the bottom and is a bit boring but people will definately know the name and its still got the mix of colour and looks nice.

I agree with pooh, above. The last one has the most appeal for me; I like the two tones of blue.
Having the 2 so much smaller than the 4 really lessens the impact of the number as 42, however.
It kinda reminds me of a television news channel's logo because they tend to present the channel number as a prominent part.

the last one, #9, the 4 should have a gap. and the colors look good and you defiantly need the blue42media underneath.

The small square in the middle is crap - and it has no 'exit'.
Nothing wrong with the colour blue.
Sorry, just my 2cents worth.
