How do I fix the heater on my 1990 (mk II) Golf Driver?

Sometimes, when the heater is blowing hot air it will just suddenly start blowing cold air. I then have to wait for a varying amount of time (15, 20, 30mins +) before it starts blowing hot air again. What is the cause of this and how do I fix it?

Sounds like a blend door actuator is going bad, see your mechanic.
