I already checked the power properties and I can only choose "Stand by" or "Nothing. Is there any other way?

My laptop takes FOREVER to shut down and when I take it to school and moving from class to class and building to building I don't want it on because my battery will die. I just have a sucky laptop, I guess.

I do not think 'Shutdown when I close the lid' can be an option unless you hack the registry.

However, if you are moving from class to class etc then I wouldn't bother shutting it down, just set it to 'Stand By' and you are done!

'Stand By' is a much better option as it saves all of your current session to RAM/Hard Disk and near enough shutsdown (only using a very slight bit of your battery) then reloads it back up when you press the power on button.

In Power Options, click on the Power Tab and look for the Hibernate Tab. Check the Enable Box and choose your settings and "OK out".

Some laptops need to set Hibernate on in the BIOS.

Check your owner's manual in case you need to use special key combos (like Fn+F6) to wake up your PC.

Why not just shut it down before you close it. Not sure if you would want that option. What if you were working on something and somebody of something accidentally closed your screen and all your work was lost.

Your laptop may be controlled by some proprietary software that came with your laptop. See if you can locate that and test it out.

when you press the on off button it should give a shut off option - choose it and it will turn off properly.
