I being brought up as Catholic but no longer am one , is also questiooning this boys only and no girs? In this time and era Girls must be allowed to join their brothers in this altar choir! We must demand it, our girls deserve it! Iam in agrement with you,I stopped going to church not only because of the boys sexual scandals ,but meny truths being found out now that we did not have access to before! I believeGod is a universal word to describe some great and powerfull Spiritual self we do not understand , and the curches , branches and priest ,pastors and dogma is all part of trying to understand our Spirituality! Blesings my fellow brother in humanity.

Well now, aren't you the sly one......tell me, did it take you long to think this one up. Clearly you know nothing of Catholicism, that's ok though, most people don't have a clue.
The reason there are only Choir Boys is not because they are used as a stable of sexual prey for some priests. That's the kind of thinking that comes from a small twisted little mind, I take it you an Evangelical. The reason has to do with scripture and the idea of Christ selecting men to follow Him. Personally I think it's outdated and primitive but hardly nefarious.

I think your insult was to be altar boys...not choir boys. If you're going to try to slander someone get it right.
But to address what you said...there are altar girls and there are choir girls.
Since you obviously trying to make a comment on sex abuse in the church...let me state the stats that you can find yourself...there is no more sex abuse in the Catholic church then in any other denomination. The percentage of priests that committed sex crimes against children is lesser then the percentage of non-priests who commit sex crimes against children. There are more dads, uncles, step-fathers, brothers, grandfathers, and family friends who abuse children then priests.
I'm not saying that makes it okay...I just get tired of hearing about pedophile preists, when pedophila is a national problem among a percentage of men of every vocation. Let's take care of the kids and deal with this problem and stop the witch hunts.

Probably not, that was an old practice. I wouldn't be surprised if it still secretely went on today, however. Doesn't that sound so evil though, the whole concept of castration?
