Ok, well I have been going to a small private school for 9 years, and this upcomming school year I will be going to a high school where I know a few of my cousins who will be older than me. But other than that, I don't know anyone. I know it's going to be scary. I'm worried about not having friends, not sitting next to anyone at lunch, and worried that someone is going to get mad at where I sit in the class...yeah I know, too many drama movies. I don't like who my cousins hang out with. I honestly think their friends aren't the best people, so I don't want to hang around them. I'm going to this public school no doubt about it, my parents said that if I really don't like it, I can transfer the next year. But I'm worried about how big it's going to be. This upcomming Wednesday I'm going to the school for orientation, so I will be able to join clubs and everything, but I guess I'm just looking for some encouraging words. Thanks

Don't fret....even going into high school from a public middle school is scary. I was never good at making new friends so I just stayed to myself in alot of classes. I wished I wasn't that shy back then.
If you don't like your cousins friends that is good that you don't want to hang around them. But joining clubs, real good idea. Then you can make friends with people that have the same interests as you.
You'll do fine, don't worry.
And good luck.

I know that it can be scarey. We moved a lot and I was not an outgoing or popular person EVER. I did mange to make friends (usually I was approached by them) and as I got older I became a little more outgoing. High school is tough, but I met a lot of my friends that I still have to this day when I was in school (I'm thirty something now). When I became a little more comfortable in my surroundings, I started being the one who always greeted the new people and invited them to my table. I still have those friends too. Just take it easy. Get involved in school activities and don't judge a book by it's cover. Good luck!

Don't worry about out... you will be just fine =] i was in the same kind of situation as you i went to the same private school for nine years and it was really small. my high school has many more students and i only had one friend going into that school. but it turned out okay and over time i made friends. joining clubs is definately a plus and will open the door to many friendships with people who share the same interest as you... good luck!

I'm an Army brat so we moved a lot. When I was in High school this kid moved to our Army base. He was a Junior and knew nobody. He was a smart kid though. He ran for Junior class president. His name was on posters all over the place. Granted he lost, but everyone knew him in know time. His Senior year, he did become class president.

just think of all the other kids that will be new to high school , you will not be alone in feeling scared of not knowing anyone or making new friends we all go through this at some point so make the best of your new adventure. be friendly and don't let anything ruin the experience of your up coming high schools years ....only you can make the best of it !!just be yourself and make friends and just think of how many others are as nervous as you !!

I had similar thoughts about high school but it turned out to be great since there are so many different people. There are also many club and activities to join so you're guaranteed to meet people you like.

Good Luck.
