My daughter had the bottle only at bedtime until she was 3. Everyone ridiculed me for it, and I knew it was time to take it away, but it comforted her! I didn't mind all that much, after all it was just a bottle of water, so not to rot her teeth. When I finally did get her off the bottle I just threw them all away one night, and told her they all broke in the dishwasher. :) She was fine with it. If you don't think he's ready to give it up, then don't. There's no harm in a bottle of water at bedtime. He'll outgrow it eventually, Good Luck!

I have trouble taking the bottle away from my babies. They still have a sucking need at 1. I think if the majority of the time he is taking the sippy cup, that for right now at his age a bottle at naptime and bedtime is completely fine. They grow up so fast and do not get to be babies very long, I think there is nothing wrong to keep the comfort of a bottle for awhile. With that said none of my kids (I have 6) still had a bottle much past two. Alot of them just got to busy and did away with it =)

I wouldn't give it back to him. It sounds like you are doing a great job weaning him slowly. If you give in it could be harder on you next time to start weaning. It should only take about a week for him to stop whining so much at nap time. Self soothing is a wonderful thing. I have a son that is 2 1/2 and a daughter that is 14 months. I just recently started putting them in their own beds to fall asleep and it is great to have my bed to myself. Don't give up or give in. Another downside to giving him a bottle while falling asleep is that it could provoke tooth decay. The milk or whatever you give him sits on his teeth while sleeping. (this may or may not happen, but is a possibility. My niece's two front teeth have turned brown and have began to decay.) Good luck and keep up the good work!

I, personally, would not give it to him. I would also advise that you take his bedtime bottle as well. I had this battle last week with my 10 month old son. He seemed to respond better once we went cold turkey with the bottles. I think giving him the bottle at bedtime is probably keeping him confused. He is probably wondering why he can have a bottle at bedtime, but not at nap time when he wants it. Be strong! It will get better in a few days, but I REALLY think the bedtime bottle should go as well. Good luck and keep us posted!

When I took my daughter off the bottle. I gave her nothing but a sippy. Even at night. She cried for a couple of nights but you have to stick through it. You need to ween from the sippy too after a while because it becomes like a bottle also.
When I weened my daughter from the sippy onto a regular cup she gained much needed weight. Hope this helps.

Just throw the bottles away. That's what I did with my son. He didn't even notice the bottles were gone.
