Yes, you are absolutely right, there are alot of inconsiderate non-smokers, also there are alot of inconsiderate smokers, not everyone is going to smoke away from others that it might bother. Second hand smoke has proven to be fatal, people have a right to do what they want as long as it does not hurt anyone else. I thank you for being considerate, I only wish there were more people out there like you, people with lung diseases cannot be around smokers, not everyone wants to own up to having a serious disease. I only hope that more people will be like you in the future and consider others who might not be as lucky as you and have good lungs to be able to smoke with. I have seen too many people, both young and old, die horrible deaths from lung cancer and emphysema and other COP D's, I have had to take care of a loved one that in final days coughed up blood chunks, another loved one that had masses of tumors which prevented oxygen from entering the lungs. Both smoked heavily. They were both kind hearted people, so were the others in my family that passed on from cancer and heart conditions, all smoked. Your question is a good one, I am not criticizing you, or anyone else that smokes, just wanted to share alittle of what I went through in my life. I really wish my passed on loved ones did not smoke, maybe they would still be here with me today, in life. I really miss them. Have a good day.

It's called a stereotype. It happens to all types of people. If you see one person doing something, it puts a connection in your mind that this person is a _________ and they do _______ . If you see a few that fit this sentence, you begin to think that based on your observations, statistically, they "all" are like that.
When you see a lot of smokers ignoring the laws about smoking, and seemingly not caring who they offend, you begin to form a stereotype that smokers are rude people that are only focused on what they want. I'm sure there are the other kind, but as you said, you "go somewhere else" so we don't see those ones. We only see the disrespectful ones. Thank you for being a polite smoker, I hope that there are plenty more like you.

You probably won't like this answer, but here goes:
"People are hard on smokers these days"....because we know more scientifically as to how bad nicotine addiction really is. We know more than ever "these days" that a bad mistake was made when we were introduced to tobacco use in the first place.
Cancer is a big reason...speak with anyone who's had cancer of the lungs, throat, mouth, tongue and a multitude of respiratory problems. You can take your pick and read case after case after case. If you have further questions, Yahoo Search turned up thousands of hits on "tobacco and health". Try it yourself.
Why one would even need to ask this question "these days" is remarkable to me in the first place. Denial--and addiction are no doubt your biggest obstacles to accept the real truth.
Do you know how badly one's hair smells to someone who does not smoke? I don't mean to be rude, but this is true--when you're painfully honest with yourself you know this.
We can't change the past but we can certainly stop making the same health mistakes in our future. Hope you can quit smoking too once you read what I have.
Good luck!

I think the reason is simple. In this day and age of information and modern medicine, there's enough proof that smoking is dangerous, and despite how considerate you feel you are, you are still knowingly polluting the air with a known killer. Don't fool yourself that friends, family, and children aren't affected by the odor. They are. So to answer your question, I think your character is a little borderline because of the knowledge you possess, yet you choose to ignore facts and shrug your shoulders at the idea you are slowly killing your organs. I understand its an addiction, but there is help.

I'm a smoker and my daughter has asthma so I have learned to be extra careful about where and when I smoke. I also ask if cigarette smoke bothers people even though you can't smoke inside very many places anymore. It's funny to me that a lot of the young people who treat smokers so bad and complain about cigarette smoke will be in a smoke filled bar on Friday and Saturday nights getting trashed and inhaling with the best of them.

Hey! Beevis! I was gonna say waht you said(4x4, hard on). I think you are correct, though. No one smokes in my environment, but it's the very few people that ARE inconsiderate about it, and there are some out there, that ruin it for the respectful people who have consideration for others. If ur gonna smoke, at least ur considerate!

impossible. The gals I even have met 18-20 are all loud, self in contact and have poor manners. the garments, the way the habit themselves in public, the screeching, the squealing, the embarrasingly intimate info they exhibit on the staggering of their voices into the cellular telephones on the bus.... Wait. As those ladies age, they mellow out. or in line with danger date a woman 25-27, they nevertheless seem warm, yet they're lots calmer. I

You sound like a VERY considerate person, hunny!! That's a good thing! :-)
I bet you would NEVER blow smoke in your baby's face or even smoke in the car if they babies were inside the car with you. But, I have seen MANY people light up in a tiny little car with their babies in it, and it makes me sick to see that. Them poor babies can't get away from the smoke, cause they are trapped in their car-seats and can't get away from it or tell mommy and daddy to STOP!!
Soon, they will pass a law that nobody will be allowed to smoke inside their cars, if they have a child in there with them.
I have had trouble with *some* smokers in my life(not all of them), but some of them.
If a building does not allow smoking inside then the smokers stand outside, directly in front of the door, and I have to walk through a big cloud of smoke to get inside. I should never have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get into the hospital, library, a restaurant, a museum, etc..
They should get away from the doors and entrances to smoke, and they should never litter by flicking their butts onto the ground. Last time I checked there was a 500 dollar fine for littering.
I have many problems with anyone who smokes, but as long as people do it considerately, and not litter, and not stand in front of an entrance, and not blow smoke in their baby's face, then Go For It.
Cheers

It seems to me that the pharmaceutical companies are making a huge profit off of people that are trying to quit smoking. It makes me wonder if they really want people to quit. If that were the case, then why haven't they banned it completely?
