If you want to shop and are going to be in the city, there are two places to do it. One, N. Michigan Ave. Has just about every store and then some that you can think of. You could spend at least three days going through it all, if you hit every place. The Water Tower is the biggest "mall" so to speak, but there are lots of single standing stores and strips. Two, State Street, just north of the financial district. You have the original Marshall Field's (now Macy's), Nordstrom Rack, one of the Filene's Basement locations (the other is across from the Water Tower). I go to this area when I am looking for a bargain.
There are tons of fun things to do in the city. I would not waste it all shopping. Hit the stores that you don't have at home and then check out the Hancock or the Sears Tower, Navy Pier (if it isn't too cold), the museums (some days of the week are free -- near the Water Tower, at Michigan and Pearson, there is a tourist info center where they can let you know -- you can also buy theater tickets for the same day there for a discount), walk around and take in the architecture. I moved to the city about months ago to go to school and still feel like a tourist and love just walking around when its nice out.

The best bargains are in the suburbs. If you shop at Water Tower and Michigan Avenune you will be paying quite a bit for things. Also in a previous post above there are no malls on Lake Shore Drive. Navy Pier is nice and touristy so be prepared to pay the usual tourist prices and there aren't any major stores there either (bars and restaurants). Woodfield Mall is very large and good in Schaumburg. Gurnee Mills has a very large outlet mall in Gurnee but that is a long drive from Chicago. In Aurora off of Farnsworth they have a newer outlet mall too. Also Walter Payton doesn't have restaurant downtown anymore nor does Michael Jordan.

You'll have no problem finding fun things to do in Chicago!!
For shopping, go to Lake Shore Drive, that should fulfill all of you
shopping needs although, there are alot of other great malls, etc.
Navy Pier is a must when visiting THE WINDY CITY!! If you are into the club scene, hit Rush Street!! Lots of Blues Clubs as well.
The World famous John Hancock Building is also popular. There are great Museums, and Historic Architecture. 2 Legendary baseball stadiums and of course Soldier Field. Downtown you will also find some of the best restaurants and nighttime haunts...
Walter Paytons, Michael Jordons, Ditkas, Mortens Steakhouse...
FUN, FUN, FUN!!!! I'm jealous, as you can tell I love Chicago. lol

There are quite a few,Northbrook Court in Northbrook, Old Orchard in Skokie, Harlem-Irving Plaza aka the HIP, at the corner of Harlem avenue and Irving Park Road, to name a few. I believe buses go to all of these, so if you can get to an L station you should be able to pick up a schedule.

A really nice mall is http://www.shopwoodfield.com/ if you're looking for a big, clean, safer mall.
Other than that, downtown is full of shopping.
There's Michigan Ave. http://www.chicagotraveler.com/chicago_magnificent_mile_shopping_map.htm
Or State Street shopping http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago/features/chicago_stateStreet.htm
Here's more info toohttp://egov.cityofchicago.org/city/webportal/home.do
Hope you enjoy. Welcome.
