It has been bandied about before, but why not allow the country to separate into three autonomous regions? Let the Sunnis, Shiiates and Kurds govern themselves so we can get our troops out of harm's way where they don't have to take sides in a civil war. The oil will still be there.

The biggest hurdle to that approach is the lack of oil in the Sunni region. No way they're going to accept a barren land, even if it means separation from their sworn enemies. They'd prefer the prospect of wiping out the Shi'ites instead of breaking off into a separate region.

This fact was known going in and Bush invaded anyway (such BS about "faulty intelligence.") History will look back on this era as the worst time and worst president in America.
