well.... depends how fast you want to go ???
say full dynamic balance, new cr-mo rods, forged pistons, skim the head, mhg, cut back the valves, double valve springs, big cams, adjustable verniers, port, polish, jenvey throttle bodies and re-mappable ECU, 4-2-1 titanium exhaust should be a good start ?
honestly though - i talk from experience - it's an expensive game trying to wring power out of a small engine - remember
there's no replacement for cubic displacement
exept maybe 40 pounds of boost...
The cheapest thing to do is to kill the weight of your car. weight slows you down more than anything, I have a 200bhp car with 200lb/ft of torque, but up to 100mph my girlfriends 205 gti 1.6 absolutely rinses me, shes got a dyno'd 118bhp and 130 lb/ft torque. My car weighs 1585 kg... hers is about 900 kg....
so, there's your answer i hope !

There are two basic things input and out put of a car. If you can make input like air intake and out put like exhaust bigger like special air filters and exhaust pipe. This is simple logic behind .
And if you are really serious.there is no limit but real thing which pushes you into the seat is how much flue is being burned which means upgrading you ECU. OR simple going for 325i is another option.
cheers and have safe drive

There is nothing you can do to it that is financially vaible.A full quality performance exhaust can cost £500 and you'd barely notice the difference.
I guess you could get nitrous but it's very expensive to use on the road. You could easily go through an 11lb bottle (£40-50 to refill) every day.

have it gas flowed and ported fit larger valves if th'rse enough room. enlarge inlet and exhaust manifolds. fit uprated parts as already suggested. if this is'ant enough fit a supercharger. insurance companies increase premiums dramaticly for modified vehicles. policy is invalid if mods not declared
