Just wondered as just passed my test,
Was coming out of Asda today and couldn't stop in time,
Can I get in trouble for it ???

Yes you may go through a yellow light if you felt there was not enough room to get stopped safely. Just don't be like people who run them from 400 feet away because they didn't feel like stopping.

No a amber light means continue but use caution

it 's not unlawful, it just means that the light is about to change to red. If a police officer sees you go thru on a "stale" yellow light he might give you a verbal warning. if you are in the intersection when the light turns red (like when waiting to turn left) you have to clear the intersection.
