You sound like a very caring Mom. That fact alone is worth more that any monetary item that you could ever give your kids. I don't know how old your kids are, and it really doesn't matter. When they do something for you, is it the actual gift that counts, or is it the thought and the caring that is the real gift. That thought really does work both ways.
Without knowing a lot more about your life it would be hard to identify anything specific to suggest. You could possible ask at you church, maybe volenteer and be a scout leader so the could join in on extras. I am sure that A lot of people will have some good ideas for you. Just remember, it really is the thought that counts.

Most of the answers above were well intended. Take a look at Daveramsey.com for some more advice. Try to make sure you live within your income after you have budgeted or made a financial plan. Try to save a little of your income for an emergency fund, no matter what. Also, do you have a talent or trade that you can use in addition to your income? If so, try to work part time at increasing your income or bartering your services to others. They might have something to exchange for your services that you don't actually have to pay cash for. Are your kids teenagers? If so, are they working? Perhaps they can take on some part time work that will assist the family or at least give them income to use for their own needs. Good Luck and God Bless!

Clipping coupons is an excellent idea, try to use them at grocery stores that give you double coupons, or look for the buy one get one free sales and use a coupon-you can save tons of money. You can also downgrade certain services like your phone take off the caller id and call waiting features. With cable TV downgrade to basic, shop in thrift stores for household items and clothes. Turn down the heat in your home just dress warmer and use blankets, open windows instead of using air conditioning. With internet service get the regular service and not high speed. With your car, check around for cheaper insurance rates you can save a lot there. I hope I have helped you and Good Luck-believe me I know how hard it is.

Take the easy stuff first, no more going out to eat, cut the cable TV and get an antenna, sorry high speed Internet has to go (its $50.-$75. a month) dial up $10. a month. Find free stuff to do with the kids ..sledding on free hills ,fishing off a river bank....etc..etc. None of these are easy things to do but being broke is no fun either.

First you have to keep track of everything that you spend for one month. Most people are surprised by at least one area as the little things add up. Evaluate the list and you'll know where to cut.

Shop around for things. NEVER pay retail. I shop at Wal-Mart for my groceries, considerably cheaper than a grocery store, clip coupons, shop clearance and sales racks for clothing, etc. Buy in bulk like at Sams Club.
