Te simplest form of printmaking (which is the art of printing something on paper with a pre-designed image wet with ink) is to used a potato, into which you have carved an image, and them rolled a thin layer of ink over, and pressed onto a surface to create a new printed image. Remember that your original carved image should being the negative, to create the correct visual image on the print surface. Print surfaces can vary from normal paper, to hand-made paper (the new fashion is to use paper hand-made from elephant dung - believe it or not!), of linoleum or even cloth. You can only use one color ink at a time, so if you want a multi-colored image, you need to carefully plan the various carvings for the different colors. In the 1970's many hippies used this technique as opposed to tie-dying to make colorful T-shirts.
