I'm going to be buying a dell notebook for school, the 17" e1705 (at least I think for right now). I have to go with a dell because the school gave me a $500 dell gift card, otherwise I might have gone with an HP just for asthetics alone... Anyway, I don't have a lot of money, but I'm looking to get the best of what I can with what I have.
I can choose between:
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
Is $50 worth the extra MHz?
And also:
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5200 (1.60GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
Is this worth the extra $150?
If not on either the money I save may be able to get me the Ultrasharp LCD with Truelife display instead of the regular screen.
To help I'm going to be doing some gaming, but not an extreme amount.. I can't wait for Spore. I'm not sure what other games I would really buy right now. I am all for editing photo's and video however. Help is appreciated!

lemme answer processor first
the t7200 is just the right one ... miles ahead of the t5200
the 4 mb l2 cache is great, clock speed is also higher, fsb is also faster
wins on all 3 counts
priced perfect., way below the t7400 / t7600
yup, the dual channel ddr2 ram @ 667 mhz is also faster than the @ 533 mhz
however the 667 mhz ram makes lil sense with a processor with 533 mhz fsb > i mean the t5200
my vote for the t7200, with 1 gb ddr2 @ 667 mhz
vista's goin to drain most of u'r resources
... better be fore-armed than sorry
btw, i would prefer the 1 gb ram in single stick
so that at a later date i have the liberty of adding another stick of 1 gb in vacant slot
& not having to discard 512 mb x 2 sticks, should i need to upgrade

I would say go for the better config. You will pay extra $200 for faster memory that matches with faster CPU and bigger Cache.
memory - 667Mhz CPU FSB 667. Do not get just one of those...like CPU 533Mhz + RAM 667 or vice versa. Get both at the same speed.
If the best is what you want that is :))))
edit:As for the screen - not sure if the "regular" is new and what it is..but may even be better for gaming. The LCD r getting cheaper and better -maybe u can get one later.

Performance is identical - same CPU, Video, high-speed drive, digital audio, and RAM. DDR5 vs GDDR5 refer to the same 1GB of video RAM - just different acronyms. Differences: System 2 has a media reader for nearly all categories of flash memory cards. System 2 has a 10/100/1000 ethernet. The added value is in in the 1000 (1Gb) ethernet, but only if you have a 1Gb switch connecting to other computers. Usually, no value at home. Basically, the second system includes a card reader but costs less. If warranty and reputability of second supplier is equal to the first, then the second system is the better value.

lol 150 for 400 mhz, the fsb, and double cache, hell ya thats worth it, 2ghz is probly the sweet spot on bang for ur buck right now, any faster than that and ur not getting as much per dollar, but definetly get that
as for memory, 667 wont make much difference, but 50 bucks is pretty good, id go for it if u can, but if ur gonna try to save some money, do it here

computer works on the speed of the slowest compound
so if u want to use the cpu with 667 MHz FSB you should use the same speed memory because it is useless to use the 667MHzfsb cpu with DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz because you will loss the maximum speed of your CPU as you will force it to work in the speed of 533

For RAM, I recommend 667 MHz as it'll boost data transfer speed. Regarding processor, if are not going to engage yourself with high-end gaming and animations, a 1.60 GHz would suffice. If you save anything, you can shell it on the LCD.

higher frequency is better but it also have high price. if you are not in a hard core gaming 1GB DDR2 533 Mhz and Core 2 Duo T5200 shall be fine.

Hi Faster is usually better, but 533 for both RAM and FSB should make you happy. Get the better monitor, in my opinion.

On your options, I would opt for the faster bus speed and the faster processor over the better LCD. It will make a difference if you are gaming.

the RAM will definaly hepl with being faster and the processor will too - sorry for chosing the expencive bits but the extra will be worth it if you r gaming - especially the 4MB chache
the screen can wait i would say but chose according to your financial situation - dont go into debt for it :)
