I usually have lower blood pressure, which is no big deal but as I approach my 31st week of pregnancy, I think it is dropping lower. I am suffering from dizziness and nausea. I checked my sugar and that isn't it. My blood pressure has been staying around 88/51. I called my docs office, and everyone is saying at least it's not high!!! Well, that doesnt really help me out. Isn't there a point where it is too low??? Should I just add a little salt to my meals? (i'm already increasing fluids) Some sites say stay active, but i am so exhausted and dizzy it's just enough to chase after my one year old. If you have any expierence with this, PLEASE let me know! (I see my doc Wednesday) Does this mean they will have issues giving me my spinal/epidural when i have my c section?? Thanks!

I've had problems with my blood pressure dropping intermittently, and even fainted and hit my head once, but I don't have a magic bullet for you. All I can say is keep talking to your doctor and make sure they understand that this is interferring with your life. Other than that, just take things slow and easy as you can, so you don't have blackout.

Most athletes and physically fit persons have low blood pressure. That is not to say that it can't be dangerous. I have always had that condition and worse. For some unknown reason my blood pressure will suddenly drop so low that all I can do is lay down for a while. The docs have to catch that when it happens to take you seriously. Unfortunately most men, including doctors, think women make up stuff for attention. It is important that you alert your doctor in no uncertain terms about your low blood pressure as it could be life threatening to you and your baby. When I had an operation and was under anesthesia they had a hard time getting my blood pressure up enough to revive me. I don't want to scare you but you should be very firm with your doctor about your condition. I would also reprimand his staff about making light of your problem. Adding salt is not a solution as it may just aggravate other conditions. I don't think it will affect your spinal, only if you're under anesthesia. In the meantime get lots of rest and do some deep breathing several times a day to get oxygen in your system. Best of luck to you and the baby.

88/51 is OK, certainly much better (as they say) than too high. If it was to stay consistently lower than that they would probably want to do an echo-gram and/or ekg and check the valves are all good, worrying will bring it up! But I get by fine on that pressure sometimes when I accidental double dose on my high pressure meds.
