I've gone almost 4 months without having my period. I'm 16 and I've been having them for almost 2 years, though always very irregularly. I go running for an hour every day and I have a low body weight, would this have anything to do with me not getting my period regularly? (I'm not pregnant.. i've never even had a boyfriend.)

When you are young, your period varies in several different ways. From the time of the month you start, to the time you finish, to the flow, to the regularity of them... nothing stays the same at first. You sound like you're healthy and normal (and kudos on the daily running). Being active (the running, I mean) can cause your period to skip (or at least that's what the doctors told me when I played sports) I wouldn't worry. I think that you are fine. If you feel nervous or scared, you can go in and talk to a doctor. Worse-case scenario, you have a hormonal imbalance, which is VERY common and easily treatable. You can e-mail if you have any questions that you don't wish to post. I will not hesitate to answer. Best wishes and good luck!

It is very likely that you could be, I had my period and it was pretty normal for the first 3 months I was pregnant with my daughter. Do you have a Planned Parenthood near you? They can test you without insurance and they have a floating scale for payment so it is very reasonable. Check them out until you get insurance. Best of Luck to you

Yes of course it would. When I was your age I was anorexic and a compulsive exerciser, I was so thin and stressed that i didnt have a period for 10 months.

Women athletes get that all the time, it has a name but I cant remember it. Its normal. Onces you BMI dips down below 18% you tend to start skipping periods.

Yes it is common to go that long without a period if you exercise regularly and you are underweight. I went 2 years as a teenager without a cycle cause I was underweight and anorexia and I did sports. I would not worry about it as long as you are eating and exercising and staying healthy then there is nothing to worry about.

Being that you are athletic and have low body weight it is normal for you to have abnormal periods. i was the same when i was younger and smaller. You will grow into them. Whenever you go to the doctors for a physical, let her know and she will make sure that everything is okay.

Yes, it's normal. You may want to try putting on just a little weight. It's hard to say because I can't see you. Being underweight is very unhealthy, though. And it will cause absence of menses.
