Where is a good place to see statistics on the internet. Loads of companies and others quote statistics, assuming they don't do their own survey, where do they get the statistics from - this is what i want to know. Thanks

The office of national statistics publishes a lot of information.

Statistics come from many places. For example, the governement get stats from birth, marriage and death certificates, companies, national census, public surveys etc

Most industries have statistic gathered by a professional bodies such as the CMIB (Continuous Mortality Investigation Bureau) and Association of British Insurers.

All companies will have a desire to record the amout of business they do so that they can detect profitable areas and opportunities.
