My rabbit got fungus infection on his head. Anyway, the vet took his hair sample for the lab to check. And I have to wait another week for the lab result back. I mean is this normal?Since he is the vet,why can't he take a look of my rabbit's head and know what kind of disease he's having right away?Besides what can I do to the infection in one week?Is this vet not doing his job well?

vets usually don't know how to detect fungus's on rabbits, there are many that look alot alike, but require different treatments, so the sample is being tested so the vet knows what it is.

As long as your vet knows what he or she is doing with rabbits, this is completely fine. A vet sending a sample out to a lab is the same as a doctor sending a sample for a biopsy. No doctor/vet office can have all of the equipment necessary to answer every question at the blink of an eye, so they need to have places where they can send the things they can't analyze on their own.

my parents are vets, and they have to send samples to the lab all the time. i think they do that when they don't know exactly what's goin on. believe it or not, vets don't know EVERYTHING. but to answer your question, that IS normal.

best of luck with your rabbit!!
