Talking to a Counsellor, making time to relax, looking at the positives in life and doing yoga regularly. These all help me. Also, take a multi vitamin and try to eat as healthily as possible, it is possible to get to the other side of depression, but there are no miracle cures, it takes time.
Best of luck to you.

Having been through a few quite bad bouts of depression I really feel for you.
These are the things that really worked for me:
Exercise -seriously this really really helps, even if you just go for a walk it helps boost your mood. And this time of year when you probably aren't getting enough sunshine (This makes me feel bad) try and get outside and get some sunlight.
Counselling-get someone to help and guide you through, it's really important to try and work through your problems and learn tools to help you cope. I have had quite lot of therapy and it was really hard work but for me it was worth every penny.
Have tried a few anti-depressents but couldn't cope with the nausea, sleepless nights and dry mouth. Found that st. johns wort and gelsimium (a homeopathic remedy) did help a bit.
Make sure you are eating well B vitamins are supposed to be good. And try and get lots of sleep (try and support your body as much as possible)
I guess the main thing for me was to try and put all my effort into getting well again, anything in my life that was upsetting me or stressing me I had to get rid of, I just tried to cope with one day at a time and gradually I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel again-that was four years ago now and I haven't had a bad depression since - I still have ups and downs like everyone else but i now recognise the symptoms and know what I need to do when I start to get a bit wobbly again.
I think the main thing I want to say is that, depression is an illness that is physiological-right now your brain chemistry is screwed up; and it has many causes-not neccesarily just emotional problems. Many many people suffer from depression, and most people are too embarrased to deal with it (which makes me sooo angry) But you are not alone. You will feel good again I promise, but you need to work on it and it's not easy.
Wish you all the best x

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Go to your Doctor. I'm not a doctor but a patient.
I guess you are in the US
I also guess that you have no easy access to public health facilities.
I don't like American policy on Education or Health.
You most likely really must have medication to keep you alive ( you must know what I mean).
In Scandinavia depression is treated by getting people into places with bright lights.
Meditation and Yoga help.
Truly constructive and socially beneficial work is good.
Maybe your GP is allowed to give you psychotherapudic drugs.
If you are really sick you must have drugs.

If you can read something of Nathaniel Branden, and read something about the Bach Flowers too
I,m having a depression too (excuse me if my english is not good),I know I should go to a psicology therapy but at the moment I can,t,reading good books of self-help is helping me a bit, then things like taking care of what you eat,do exercise, natural and alternative therapys are helping me a bit too, probably will not solution completely your depression but will help a bit and that,s better than nothing
But I think the best thing you can do is go to a psicologist
Buena suerte y que te mejores
(Good luck and I hope you feel better)

to fight depression, best is to keep yourself busy in your work most of the weekdays.in the evenings yu shd exercis for one hour or play some game which may relieve you of the day's stress.and cook something for yourself n the family.if you are staying alone, read a few pages of some good book.and of course music is must for the calmness of the soul.so play some nice light music.dnt talk to the people who have negative thinking in life.think positive n have faith in your actions.go for a holiday once in two months.holiday can be short or long according to your convenience.and ofcourse if you have some opposite sex partner, sexual pleasure also helps at times to relieve yourself.give surprises to your beloved.and go places with him.i think you can fight depression in one month.and after that you wd be a blooming flower.all the best

I sleep, Although this not a cure, It is a way of coping!
My depression is genetic, as my mother, and my
grandfather where also. Also physical exercise, is a great
help. It's harder in the winter when you can't get out so much. I play my guitar too cheer me up, as I learn new material, it gives me a sense of accomplishment. Good Luck!

If you are able, get a pet to take care of. The sense of responsibility will give you a motivator and the pet can bring much joy into your life. I was fighting depression and I got a pet rabbit. Now there is always someone there who needs and loves me always. I feel responsible to take care of him, so I now don't lie around and feel bad all day. Good luck to you.

Read some books about depression and how to overcome it. It will help you to understand it better and you will learn something new about it.
Also, take a couple of weeks of holidays in a hot country. Sunshine can help you and it is good for your help in general.
Talk to somebody about your problems- someone who can trully understand your situation.
Eat healthy.
Good luck!

Never really suffered severe depression, but when I'm down spending time with family or friends, getting out as often as I can, treat yourself to a special gift, don't stay in and get more depressed.
