Space heaters should really only be used when you are right there with them. For fire safety reasons, never leave them alone.

It probably costs more to run space heaters than to up your thermostat to the higher level. A central heating unit or elactric baseboard heaters are more efficient. You could also try to get the heat down from the ceiling by running a ceiling fan on low... it moves the air and evens out cool spots and also brings the heat down from the ceiling.

I only use space heaters in my bathroom when I am taking a bath or shower. The main reason I don't use them all the time is I am afraid they will get turned over and not shut off like they need to. My sister uses them pretty much all winter so that she doesn't use as much gas. I was always told that they use a lot of electricity but I really don't know if it does or not. I guess you could try one month of just turning the thermostat up and see if it's cheaper than using the space heaters or not. Good luck!

Ditch the heaters... Fire hazard, electricity wasters... Wear a jacket inside and wooly socks.. That's what I do....

Hey. I get cold at 70 de F depending on the time of year. But then again. I can be outside and work in 120 De F.

I LIVE for summer!!!

space heaters use more power then your furnace. ditch the space heaters and turn your heat up a little. if your room is in an older house and an add on there may not be heat to it then you may have to use space heaters.

You're cold with 74 degrees? Most people would switch to an air conditioner at 80!!! Try getting your thyroid checked, you may have what I used to have which is hypothyroidism which makes you feel cold when it's not cold.

Very difficult to answer your question without lots more info . . . such as, square footage of your home (living spaces), gas or electric heat (and space heater fuels), etc . . .

This year, I have chosen to decrease (gas furnace) my overall house temp (to 65) and utilize electric space heaters in areas I am in (while computing, etc). This practice has NOT saved me in overall energy costs, this season. . . So, I'm returning to raising the house temp (back to 72 degrees in the day), and lowering it at nite (to 65), and hopefully return to lower elec and gas bills for heating. . .
