It depends on how you measure "good". I have a number of PCs, my newest one has a Pentium D 3.0Ghz with 2 GB of dual channel memory, 800Mhz Front Side Bus, Gigabit LAN, SATA hard drives running RAID 5. You would think that this would be quite a powerful system, however I have other older systems that seem to have more processing power, or are better for online gaming.

My work system is a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz system with 1 GB memory, 100 Megabit LAN, IDE hard drive. I have another home system (that my daughter uses) Pentium 4, with the same specs as my work system. I run SETI @ Home, a processor intensive application, on all these systems, and the Pentium 4 systems substantially out perform the Pentium D system in the number of SETI units processed.

I also do a bit of online gaming. I have a system, that my son uses, with an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 1.833GHz processor, half a Gig Memory, IDE hard drive, 100 Megabit LAN, and this system performs better at gaming than the Pentium D. Both systems have NVIDIA graphics cards, the Pentium D system with a newer more powerful version.

When I first purchased my Pentium D system it came with stock fans, and the processor would keep over-heating. I ended up purchasing two new high volume fans to remedy this.

I do not recommend the Pentium D, but instead would recommend one of the newest Intel® Core™2 Duo processors, or one of the latest AMD Dual core processors.

D has dual core and 4 doesn't.
Pentium D is good but a little bit old technology and bad with cooling.
Intel Core Duo 2 E series is much better and AMD X2 series is also good.
D is better than 4 but it's not the best what is offering

It's a good processor - but if you're buying a whole computer you'd need more info before knowing whether it's a good computer.
