My wife has been trying to find a job in this area for a year now. Has her degree and RHIA certification. She's about had it with the job search. Everyone wants experience only. Where exactly do you get experience if nobody is hiring those without it? Who exactly was talking that this career is the one to get into? She's literally sent out at least 50 resumes (maybe more). Including medical records clerk, to get her foot in the door, amongst others.
Is this a bad career to get into or what???

She's been doing medical transcription from home for about 11 years. And is ready to use the degree she earned while doing that. But, it appears she wont be able to.

I can totally identify with your wife. I have no certification but I am in the same career field. I am a medical transcriptionist with a college degree in Medical Secretary and Coding Specialist. It took me 4 interviews at the same place to finally land a job. It is a very hard field to get in to, but once you are in, it is wonderful. Have your wife try applying for Med. Records, Transcription, anything in the health information field. Persistence is key. Keep following up on resumes and keep following up. It took me about a year of applying and then another four months after graduation before I landed a job. It all depends on where in the country you live. If there is a large medical center in your area, keep applying and keep looking on their website for employment opportunites and if one comes up, call the HR recruiter and submit another application/resume. Good luck!
