I have a server error due to misconfiguration.?

When I try to log on to some web sites. I am told to ask the admin to check the error log. How should I do this and where?

Since you said "some websites" it's not happening all the time. What kind of sites are they? (What I mean is, are they similar sites or of a completely different nature?) It would appear to be a problem with the actual websites, not your system because it's not happening for every site you try to access.
A few more details could be helpful.
