13, but that was 40 years ago and we all know that, if I may quote Mr. Zimmerman, "oh the times they are a changin". As for my children, I think they were about 14, 15 years old, or even 11, 12 go to to the mall, movie, etc. sometimes I would drive them and stay at the mall, but just 'be with them'. Then we would arrange to 'meet' at a central location, this of course, being in a time prior to cell phones.

I was young when I was allowed to go to the movies alone. Nine or ten maybe. Yikes! But it was a different time. Kids were safe running around their neighborhoods by themselves. There wasn't a lot of sex and violence in the films. And - there wasn't a mall except in a city about 50 miles away. I'm probably the wrong person to be asking. So much has changed.

I will tell you - my child is 12 and we still don't let her go to the movies by herself. Or the mall. We go and try to hang back - but keep her and her friends within eyesight. It's because we love and care about her - and she knows it.

And - I have to tell you the only word spelled "butt" is the one that defines your backside. You meant to say "but" - I believe.

12-13 - but we were dropped off by parents and stayed at that location for a pre determined about of time. And then the parental unit would come pick us up.

By 16, more or less total freedom as long as I called and checked in and let my parents know where I was.
