Definetly!!!! And look at what they're being paid to do. Are they role models? Not all are good ones. Fights, drugs, AIDS, promiscuity, guns, on and on. It really makes me upset!
American values are screwed up on this one. Can you imagine if the president said, No more multi million dollar contracts for athletic superstars. Everyone's wages will top out at one million. The extra money will go the HEALH CARE!!!!!
Do you know paramedics make just above minimum wage? At least in California... The same highly trained people that save lives on a daily basis, intubate babies, CPR, 'shock' hearts back into rhythm, start IV"s where you can't find a vein, and go into dangerous situations to 'rescue' patients. Minimum wage for a job like that is crazy. They should be making alot more than they do.
People that can't get screening exams cause their co-pay for their insurance is too high. (not welfare; HMO patients that pay for their insurance) The working people pay for catastrophic health care and can't afford routine tests and do without. In the future, it'll be these people that get incurable diseases, (middle class) cause they can't afford health costs.
There are many more issues, but, yeah, athlets get paid way too much. America's values are messed up, especially if you compare what 'players' make and then think of how our seniors are treated. I'm not saying all seniors, but the ones that can't afford more help to stay in their homes, or the ones that need placement and there's not one open, or the homes that could be staffed SO much better if they received more money. Heck, hospitals could be staffed better if THEY got reimbursed like they should. Imagine, taking money from athletes and putting it into health care.
People would still watch them, even if they got paid millions less.

I consider football and other sports as nothing more than forms of entertainment. This entire nation places way TOO MUCH IMPORTANCE on entertainment, especially sports. My PROFESSION is educating the coming generations in our country. After 31 years and having a MASTERS DEGREE for all of them, I make just $53000. Sports figures make that much per game. YES, they are paid way too much for something that holds little value to the progress and future of our country.

Football, baseball, basketball, almost all of them are overpaid, just like actors. And too many of them are a bunch of cry baby whiners.
