You want at least 1.0GB of RAM and a 100GB hard drive.

Processors are AMD and Intel, but within each brand they have different levels of perfromance and quality. I personally would look for an AMD 64X2 3800 or higher. That will keep you in a decent price range too.

Make sure it has a DVD burner that burns all formats (+/-/RW) and a card reader. If you will be uing high-speed internet, you may want it to have a network card as well.

And last but not least, you want it to have an NVidia video card with at least 128MB of un-shared memory. You might look at HPs/Dells and not Gateways or eMachines.

First of all in regards to someone else suggesting that you buy a Mac, I highly recommend you do not take that advice unless you already feel that Mac is your personal preference. Virtually the entire planet runs off of Windows based computers, a Mac is simply an alternative and not a very smart one regardless of what anyone may say to convince you otherwise. The IPod mp3 player may be a common household item but the IMac computer certainly is not, and for good reasons so don't be mislead.

As for buying your first computer, don't get lost in all the technical terms of things and feel you have to be an expert in all the specifics because in all honesty, most any stock computer off the shelf these days is going to work out just fine for the typical computer user.

You asked specifically about RAM. Generally speaking, 512 mb of ram is standard and plenty; You do not need a full gigabyte of ram in order for your computer to function well for multiple applications. Most stock computers like you'll buy at your local CircuitCity or BestBuy are not going to have anymore than 512 mb of ram, don't be discouraged by that because 512 is plenty and more than enough, even if you're a gamer. More memory is desirable of course but you can always add more ram yourself later on if you so choose.

Again though, if you aren't very knowledgable about computers, take heart in the fact that most stock computers today come equipped right off the shelf with more than enough to satisfy all your computer needs.

it all depends on u . if u can do mantainance of ur pc yourself then go for assembeled one(it will cost less, but it will have teething problem)otherwise go for a branded one. u should have min. 1gb ram with high speed or which work on 667mhz or above
for processor if u r buying for proffessional work or gaming then go for the high end one either in amd (above athlon 3800+)or intel(core 2duo)otherwise u can settle for avg.processor. for motherboard go for intel orignal motherboard, and look that it has enough pci ,pci express slots.
for cabinet take the one which prevents dust and keep the processor cool.
and yes if ur assembling then take a boxed processor.

these are the basic thing rest of the thing depend on how much u wish to spend
if u pay more u will get more feature but many people buy some features they never need hence first see how u will use the comp then spend for it
for more u can always contact me

It really depends on what you want to do with your computer. If you are just doing word processing, email, web you would be fine with a $500 computer.

If you are going to be gaming you are going to want to go with a higher end system, something in the $1500+ range. You will want a faster processor, at least 1 GB of RAM, a nice video card (ATI or nVidia), etc.

Without knowing exactly what you will be doing with your machine it is hard to tell you. You can check the major computer manufactures, they will have low end machines as well as "gaming" machines and everything in between. This should give you a good idea what to look for.

Depends what u r going to use your PC for,eg gaming work or broadband. If all then u need a fast powerfull machine pref. a dual core processor with atleast 2.8ghz proc speed.I have intel pentium D Dual Core Media Center 2005 and its brilliant.Ideal for multi tasking and gaming over the net and handles broadband no problem.Dont always go for the cheapest an extra £200 goes along way.Good brands are fugitsu siemens, dell packared bell HP Compaq are getting better.

If this is your first computer I highly recommend purchasing a Mac rather than a PC. Mac are hugely popular now and you don't have to worry about the extras, their already built in. I own 2 PCs and 2 Macs and find myself letting the PCs colect dust these days. The Mac is much more user friendly and much easier to use for those who don't have a ton of experience. They never crash and never get viruses as well. Macs now run typical microsoft products like word, excel, etc now too so you won't have to worry about being alienated. Check our www.apple.com for more info. Good luck.

1. good graphic card:Radeon X1600 or higher
NVidia 7600 or higher

2. good processor: AMD X2 3800+ or higher
Intel Core Duo 2 E6300 or higher
Pentium D 945 or higher

I RECOMMEND E6400, IT'S THE BEST FOR IT'S COST,BETTER THAN PENTIUM OR AMD
