For constipation, try dark leafy greens, fiber or stool softeners. also drink alot of water. This will help move it along. I would use stool softener as the last resort. Also talk to your docter about which stool softeners are safe. Not all docters will recommend stool softeners so be sure to ask your docters about it.

Spastic colon is a condition also referred to as irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS. The condition is characterized by a number of symptoms, including diarrhea or constipation which may even be experienced on an alternating basis. Other symptoms include bloating, abdominal pain, cramping, and excessive gas. Often, these symptoms disappear temporarily after having a bowel movement. Sometimes, a person with a colon issues will also experience mucus in his or her bowel movements. Or, even after having a bowel movement, he or she will still feel the need to use the restroom as if not completely empty. I work with the Global Healing center, and we speak to people with these issues every day, so you are not alone! I would suggest the following link, there is some really good info here:
http://www.colon-cleanse-constipation.com/spastic-colon.html
I always suggest that people read more about these types of issues, this will allow a better understanding of what you can do to stop this from happening, or to aliveate the issue.
I send you my best, take care and be well!

Lots of fruit(with peel on, like apples), oranges, fiber cereal in the morning, vegetables, raw and cooked. Buy some whole grain bread and eat one slice toasted for breakfast. I know what you're going through. I always struggle with irregularity, and pregnancy just makes it so much more worse.
My doctor prescribed a liquid laxative..Lactulose, I believe that's what it's called. It's supposed to be gentle and safe for pregnant women, but I only took it once. It brought on wicked bad diarrhea and gas pains, etc. I've been adjusting my diet more.
Also, walking and exercise is supposed to help. Buy some metamucil tablets, but only take one at a time a few times a day, that should be gentle enough on your system to make you move.
Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy :)
And last but not least "drown the enemy." Fiber soaks up water and helps move things through your system. Drink plenty of water.

Pregnancy slows down digestion, which can cause gas and constipation. I haven't figured out how to stop the gas except to avoid anything I know causes me gas normally. As for constipation, eat lots of fruits, vegetables and fiber. I have been adding more to my diet and have really noticed the difference. Good luck.

Colace is safe during pregnancy and works wonders for constipation.
Beano-O is also safe. You may want to avoid foods that aggravate gas, such as broccoli. When I was pregnant, there came a point that I couldn't hold the gas in, no matter how hard I tried! LOL It's just a part of being pregnant.
